When Barack Obama appears on Thursday on the homey set of The View, all couches and coffee cups, he can expect laughs and soft questions from “the ladies” – led by television mavens Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg.

In yet another first, Mr Obama will appear on a daytime television chat show, speaking largely to the “soccer mom” demographic about his family’s life inside the White House, the economy and the BP oil spill.

I have read that other places. But, when examining the facts of the situation, I think he's just ignoring the BSA for no other reason than the simple fact that he wants too.

He's taping the View appearance right now, or perhaps it's even over by now. If the BSA event was today, he could have just appeared live on the View tomorrow, as virtually everyone else does. And, if the BSA is tomorrow, he's free because he's taping today. IOW, the View "excuse" for his absence from the BSA event just doesn't hold water. He's not there because he doesn't wish to be there.

Convince moms that their kids’ future is the most important election issue.

Convince them that money magically comes from the printing press and not from their own or their husbands' hard work and time. So many people are unaware of how money works.

I would be very interested in what the demographics are for the view. My guess would be that it is already a heavy Dem demographic of retirees and black women. If Obama is going to appeal to the soccer moms, he is going to have to abandon the racist accusations. Has anyone in Obama, Inc ever noticed the demographics of the soccer mom crowd? Accusing white people of racism isn't exactly going to go over well with them....how many black kids play soccer????

If you want to have a better idea of a show's demographics, take note of its advertisers. My guess is - and this is from watching the show a handful of times - they don't have a very large "black" demographic or "retiree" demographic. Most of the commercials are targeted towards stay-at-home moms, with few if any commercials for Depends for retirees, or black-specific product commercials

When sweeps was over this past May, ABC won with The View placing as the number three highest rated daytime show, ages 18-49 (the coveted demographic). Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to find ratings information for specific demographics like political affiliation or race, although age is sometimes available. Make no mistake, they certainly capture this information, but it's the kind of information that they make you pay for, so it's not readily available on the web.

After I posted, I did try to find the demographic information on The View, but as you pointed out, it is not available without paying a fee. I did find all the general demographics for cable channel.
During the search, I found that the big three prime time audiences now have an over 50 demographic for the first time.
As far as advertising, the big companies, really big,need to find some outlet for their tv dollars and I know from a relative in marketing that some cleaning products and food products are, in fact marketed by ethnicity. There are whole lines of cleaning products that are specifically marketed towards blacks based on qualities such as fragrance and ideas of what the specific product is intended. I personally do not know of anyone who watches the View except two eighty-plus-year-old relatives. My take from that is that one needs to have some sort of hearing loss to be able to actually listen to those hyenas.
