FoxNews: Ethics Panel Says 'Sorry, Charlie, No Deal'
Fox News ^ | Published July 29, 2010

...

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, ranking member on the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, said Rangel was given an opportunity to settle charges during the investigative process, and that time has passed.

"Let me be clear that Mr. Rangel under these rules was given opportunities to negotiate a settlement during the investigation. Let me be clear that I did not participate in any attempts to cut a back room deal behind closed doors," McCaul said at the start of a hearing on possible corruption charges.

McCaul said it's not lost on any member of the panel that the approval rating of Congress is at an all time low, and requires the probe, which has involved 28,000 pages of documents and 60 meetings as well as one deposition from Rangel, be fair and open.

Committee Chairwoman [Democrat] Zoe Lofgren added that the "task is to determine whether Rangel violated that trust."

Please note the 'R' after Rep. Michael McCaul's name, R-Texas, in the article...

I guess the deal didn’t include frog marches, orange jump suits and tin cups for drinking.

Then again, I’m sure Charlie could “Wrangle” (pun intended) a term in one of the Country Club prisons, like the other “Beautiful People” do when they get caught.

Zoe Lofgren - another Dem left wing nut case. I’ll bet she is really PO’d at the Republicans for standing firm on this one. Let’s see how they try to drag out this Rangel mess in an attempt to keep his corrupt way under cover until after the election.

So does this mean he has to have his day in court? Does this mean he has to go through with the public airing of all the charges?

Will this happen between now and election day?

It seems ridiculous that he had an opportunity to make a deal, even more so that it was time-limited and he let his time expire. But now that that’s happened, THROW THE BOOK AT HIM!

Question: How is it that the dems, holding a majority in the house and in the ethics committee, didn't just sweep this under the rug like everything else?

Don't get me wrong... I just don't understand how it is that they haven't covered for him.

"...COULD POSSIBLY FACE EXPULSION"???????

Possibly???

Could he???

I hope this drags out all summer long, and ol’ gravel voice becomes the poster child for the Culture of Corruption inherent in the party that passed Obamacare while reveling in their sleaze and dishonor.

If enough pressure goes on the dems force them into exacting a decent penalty on Rangel, you can count on Charlie to be arrogant enough to fight back. This has major Popcorn Potential.

Well this is a pretty little pickle. Dems can either A> Face an airing of the grievances, bombshells and whatnot in a public trial, or B> Appear to voters that they are letting yet another politician get away with murder knowing full well what voters think of politicians in general. September should be interesting.

“Let me be clear that Mr. Rangel under these rules was given opportunities to negotiate a settlement during the investigation.

Why was he given a chance to make a deal? I am sure they would not have given any of US the same opportunity. Besides, I’m not so sure they haven’t cut him one anyway.

What was McCaul supposed to do - violate House rules? He apparently proceeded according to House rules.

Question: How is it that the dems, holding a majority in the house and in the ethics committee, didn't just sweep this under the rug like everything else?

The ethics committee is the only committee where membership is evenly split between R's and D's. The chairman is always from the majority party, but the membership is always evenly split. That is why it would take at least one Republican to agree to a deal with Charley...

Psssst. Rangel is Harlem's Congressman.
