In the new movie "Inception," Leonardo DiCaprio burrows deep into the subconscious of a self-absorbed plutocrat to plant a powerful idea that will change the world. If the technology used in "Inception" were available in real life, Mr. DiCaprio might burrow into the subconscious of Hollywood plutocrats and plant these paradigm-altering ideas: Stop making movies like "Grown Ups," "Sex and the City 2," "Prince of Persia" and anything that positions Jennifer Aniston or John C. Reilly at the top of the marquee. Stop trying to pass off Shia LaBeoufwho looks a bit like the young George W. Bushas the second coming of Tom Cruise. Stop casting Gerard Butler in roles where he is called upon to emote. And if "Legion" and "Edge of Darkness" and "The Back-up Plan" and "Hot Tub Time Machine" are the best you can do, stop making movies, period. Humanity will thank you for it.
In a millennium that has thus far produced precious few motion pictures in the same class as "The Godfather," "Jurassic Park," "Casablanca," "Gone with the Wind," "My Fair Lady" and "The Matrix," there is a knee-jerk tendency to throw up one's hands and moan that the current year is the worst in the history of motion pictures. But 2010 very possibly is the worst year in the history of motion pictures. Where once there was "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," there is now "Robin Hood," prince of duds. Where once we could look forward to "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "The Last of the Mohicans," we can now look forward to "Dinner for Schmucks" and "The Last Airbender." This time two years ago we were treated to the ingenious, subversive "Iron Man"; this year we have the insipid, uninspired "Iron Man 2."

Really bad year for movies bump.
Just saw Mr. Dispicable. Good fun for me and 9 year old granddaughter.
Iron Man 2 rocked!!!!
They didn’t like it because it took a swipe at liberals.
Toy Story 3 was the best of the franchise.
Grown men were crying in our theater.
And we've had it with all the films showing the horror, the inhumanity and the simple evil pervasive today.
What to do? What to do?
Despicable Me was great.
Screw Hollywood and TV. They support Obama 110%.
Really lame remakes and other s**t.
LOL! Shia LaBeouf - wow he is horrible and nothing to look at. Who is he related to?
What happened to the remake of Wall Street? Did that ever come out or did it die like Blockbuster is dying?
The Expendables is coming, soon to be the greatest action film of all time.
Nonsense. The new ‘Red Dawn’ is coming out in November. This may be the best movie year in a decade. ;-)
How did "Jurassic Park" get in that list? Other than the special effects, that movie was a complete turd. Utterly unwatchable.
Saw Inception last week ... it was fantastic.
A-Team was good. I liked Robin Hood and Shutter Island quite a bit. The kids liked Toy Story 3 a lot.

It is sad when the Disney /animated movies are the best offering in a year.. of course that could put some of hollywood elite on unemployment :)
Last year wasn't much better - Up In the Air, Star Trek and The Hangover were the only movies worth renting, much less actually going to the theater to see.
Red Dawn has been postponed due to problems at MGM.
Pretty much the only good movies being made nowadays are foreign films.
You might think that, but you'd be wrong. Don't make the same mistake I made. I wasted 1:30 of my life that I'm never getting back. What has been seen, may not be unseen.
Any article about “bad” movies hat lists “The Last of the Mohicans” as an example of a “good” movie should be severely ridiculed.
Not in the same league as Casablanca, The Godfather.
Jurassic Park wasn’t that bad but I wouldn’t call it a classic. Jurassic Park 2 on the other hand was dreadful.
They keep making crappy movies because they keep getting the money to do it. Just like the government keeps getting our tax dollars to make crappy decisions that screw up our lives.
“Robin Hood: Prince of Duds”? I heard Robin Hood was a pretty good movie. Anyone...anyone....?
It's even been a bad year for foreign language films. The Secret in Their Eyes and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are about the only one I'd recommend seeing - although TGWTDT is not for the faint of heart as it has some shockingly graphic scenes.
Not so. It's on indefinite hold due to MGM's money issues. Same with the as yet untitled "Bond 23."
I would have to disagree with you on that one. I loved that movie.
Them's fighten words. Magua's demise is one of the best revenge scenes in cinema.
Hang in there. Thge Beaver wth Mel Gibson is coming out soon and if it is half as good as his phone tapes, it’ll be blockbuster.
I went to watch that movie one night because it looked like it might be charming. The minute it started, I smelled an anti-capitalist propaganda movie coming and turned it off. I am sick to death of that kind of gratuitous crap in Hollywood films and TV shows. Screw em. I have better things I can do with my time than be lectured to and propagandized about the values of marxism. Hollywood simply doesn’t understand me, my family or our values. The last straw for us were all the horrible movies they made about our troops during Bush’s administration trying to undermine the war. No more. I can’t stand Hollywood!
Meanwhile, I’ll wait for Atlas Shrugged to be made honestly and go see that when it comes out.
Yep, that's true. Principle photography has been completed, but it's stalled in post. It's chances for release this year have all but completely evaporated.
What's wrong with Jennifer Aniston?
Jurassic Park was a major snoozer.
Iron Man 2 was a good time.
Can’t think of the last movie I’ve been to.
I have an idea. Why doesn’t Obama leave Washington and go make movies in Hollywood? That way the mind numb Obots can still get thrills up their legs, Obama can bask in the glory of his own ego and our country can go back to being prosperous and free.
Win..Win..Win.
She looks like a short man. Isn't that enough?
The only ones I've been to in the past seven years were "The Passion of the Christ" and last year's "Star Trek."
I saw Inception yesterday ... don’t waste your money.
I'm waiting for Mad Mel. It's a Mad Max follow on with him driving through the Negev Desert in Israel. His car is alcohol fueled and so is he.
I have to admit that this year has been dismal in the movie industry. I did enjoy Shutter Island, and I thought that it was a good movie. I watched Clash of the Titans last night, and I was disappointed. I am trying to think of an outstanding movie this year, and nothing comes to mind.
There are two sorts of movies that I will not watch. First, I am tired of anti-American movies. Second, I am tired of macho chick movies with the girls being the bad ass.
Went to see Casino Royale went it was released. Likely to be the last time I’ll ever go to the movies. The LazyBoy is just too comfortable compared to the theater.
“Dunno. Hot Tub Time Machine looks so bad it might actually be good. But I figure on waiting on the Redbox version to find out.”
Save your money-it’s even WORSE!
Saw Inception yesterday with the wife. She loved it I fell asleep twice. Saw Salt and give it a B.
On deck..."Winds of War" by Herman Houk. This was recommended by a local talk radio host. Can anybody out there vouch for it?
