Mail carrier Bryan Bloomquist survived a harrowing attack by two pit bulls, with help from neighbors and police who killed the dogs.
The adversarial relationship between mail carriers and dogs is well-known.
But as two pit bulls tore relentlessly into Bryan Bloomquist's arms and legs outside a north Minneapolis house Tuesday, the mail carrier didn't think about clichés. He thought about dying.
"I had no fight left in me at that point," said Bloomquist, a 6-foot 3-inch, 300-pound Iraq war veteran said from his hospital bed Wednesday. "I thought it was over."

Read the story -- he did everything right, the neighbors were even hitting on the dogs with a baseball bat and they didn't let go.
And 6-3, 300 lbs. (no exaggeration, I met the guy once.)
NO Cheers, unfortunately.
Scooped you.
You and Chet should get a room.
Look at your moniker! You and Chet are practically related.
“NO Cheers, unfortunately.”
Cheers that the filthy dogs were blown away, instead of going to the doggy hotel.
I’ll take 100 pit bull threads over 1 religion thread.
Um...I think yours is more of a Rottweiler.
Poorly trained and that’s on the owner.
I am kidding!
The dogs do what they enjoy and that’s tag teaming in a maulfest. The rationalizations of the people who keep the breed are breathtaking to behold. I should keep a freaking hyena or wild african dog if it’s all about pushing the limit.
Geez! The person who posted this article is from Minnesota and has met the man in the article. It's a local story about a vet who was almost killed by two crazed dogs. A far as I know, the OP doesn't spend all day, everyday posting pit bull stories.
You're rather insulting there, noob.
“Then I heard the gunshots go off,” he said. “It was the sweetest sound that I’ve ever heard. Those dogs got what they deserved.”
This is sad. Where I live, all the mail carriers have a pocket full of dog treats. When the mail comes, it’s like the ice cream truck for the neighborhood’s dogs.
THAT is what we need at the Mexican border. A no mans land about 50’ wide, fenced on both sides, patrolled by packs of mean pitbulls!
Pit Bulls, man I hate those things. I dont want to get going anymore about them so I’ll read your thread.
Prayers up for this man.
The owners need to be in jail 1 year for every tooth mark that man received and if they can’t figure out how many that is, just put them in for life. And sell everything they own to pay the guy’s bills.
Lock-on jaw. . .defend yourself (hit them, et al) and they lock on harder. Scary moments, glad he survived. The owners I hope, will be held accountable for their dogs.
ahhh; started this and took a phone call...forgot they were killed by police. Owners now just need to be held accountable. . .
Postmen should carry ping !
Also, the dogs had not been vaccinated for rabies...
NO Cheers, Unfortunately.
Didn’t want you to miss this.
Yeah, that's what we need. More armed postal workers.
Bah.
Postal Workers are all either citizens or legal residents. 2A applies to them too.
Postal Ping
Which is against postal regulation
Gee, here’s a story about black lab attack: http://www.kfsm.com/wjw-dog-attack-three-hurt-lorain,0,3620724.story
Hmm. Why didn’t you post that one? I mean, isn’t that more of a news story than a pit bull attacking?
Here’s a Rhodesian Ridgeback attack: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/local/nj/20100722_Judge__Salem_County_dog_attack_that_severed_ear_was__quot_minor_quot_.html
I wonder why that didn’t make the news?
Here’s a rottweiler attack, advertised only as a ‘dog’ in the headline: http://www.news-press.com/article/20100727/NEWS01/100726092/1002/NEWS01/Woman-recalls-Lee-County-dog-attack
This dog is not even identified, but it happened in toronto where I think pit bulls are banned... http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2010/07/27/14846076.html
The worst part about black labs is when they jump up on you and rake their front claws down your chest.
Cheers!
Yeah, until they bite a guy till he goes down, then keep atacking...or didn’t you watch the video?
Don’t you think that’s pretty surprising? News worthy, even?
Lots of dogs attack, bite, etc. Pit bulls kill
Concord man charged in fatal pit bull mauling
Associated Press July 26, 2010
Contra Costa County prosecutors have filed two felony charges against a Concord man whose stepgrandson was killed by at least three of the family’s pit bulls.
Right right right...pit bulls attack, always. So why isn’t a ‘family friendly breed’ like a labrador attacking multiple people(including a child) news? Why isn’t this attack being announced from the roof tops?
The only time I literally peed my pants was on an evening walk around my (then) neighborhood and a pitbull got loose from his yard and ran towards me silently, crouched and was ready to spring for my throat. His owner was running after him and finally wrestled him to the ground about 2 feet from me.
The owner then shouted obscenities at me for aggravating the dog since I had screamed in terror.
That taught me all I need to know about pit bulls. And their charming owners.
Because no one died.
Aaaand who died in this story? The mail carrier? He seems to be alive and kicking...Being as how he’s giving interviews and whatnot..
No, I just clicked on all three of your links (Lab, Rhodesian, and the other) and read the articles.
My comment on the Lab was based on prior ownership...
I once knew a guy who had a Rhodesian -- all it did was chase Frisbees.
Didn't watch the video, I have a music video going in the other window & didn't want to mess it up, sorry.
Please re-read my post 1, you'll see why I served up the article.
Cheers!
Do a Google search on Pit Bull Kills. Then do one on Chihuahua kills, beagle kills, collie kills, Scottish Terrier kills and you may see a pattern.
Post them, if you want to, then.
I normally don't get heavily into the DogBite threads, but I hadn't seen this one posted yet, and it got a LOT of local press.

Where do you get your opinions from?
I can't. The labrador who bit my sister's face never made the news.

It's amazing how much press you get when you put 'pit bull' in the headline...
Darling picture, but, my dear, that is definitely NOT a pitbull.
He’s a mix...Pit bull & red heeler. We went through hell when he first came to live with us, all the energy of of a RH and the cleverness of a PB. Best dog I’ve ever owned, so far. Makes good furniture, too.
Count on you to post those. BTW, like your tagline!
Thanks! I ripped off a review of ‘the wolfman’.
