Banks won't take Fort Hood shooting suspect's paychecks

As he sits in the Bell County Jail, accused of the Nov. 5 Fort Hood shooting that left 13 dead, Maj. Nidal Hasan continues to receive his monthly U.S. Army paycheck, which based on his rank and experience is probably more than $6,000.

That's standard procedure for soldiers who are confined before military trial, according to Army officials.

But Hasan, charged with a shooting spree that shocked the country, is not a standard defendant. And he's having a hard time finding a bank to take his money.

According to his civilian attorney John Galligan , Bank of America notified Hasan last month that it was closing his account and no area bank so far has agreed to open an account for the Army psychiatrist. Military regulations require soldiers to be paid through direct deposit, making a bank account indispensable.

"I think it's just another example of the prejudice that he's been exposed to," Galligan said. "It's money that he's entitled to, that he has a right to."

Hey, it’s the banks (BoD) prerogative to extend or not to extend banking privileges for the cowardly assassin. Good for the bank. His life should be made very difficult, very very difficult.

From working in banking, my guess is that he has been identified under FinCen (either part of or similiar to the patriot act) as a “potential” terrorist and the bank may not be able to conduct business for him.

The fines are huge and you can face jail time if you get caught doing business with someone on the list. The other interesting part would be if it was someone else besides the government sendinh him money, they could be in serious trouble.

Gotta love this:

He was especially angry that Fort Hood National Bank also refused, he said.

"In its unique position as the one major bank on post, with access to all of the soldiers, they turned us down too," Galligan said. "Well, give me a break. How many other people pending a court-martial, still presumed to be innocent, does the bank say, 'Hey, we're not going to do business with you?

I suppose there’s a remote possibility this guy might be found not guilty by reason of insanity (ironic for a purported shrink), in which case what, he goes on disability payments?

I’m sure Bummer will nudge and wink some banker he knows if the locals all give the shooter (”shooting suspect”? come ON) the cold shoulder.

I suppose he’ll get an injunction from a sympathetic federal judge soon enough.

More like $8000 depending on the VHA.

Next thing they’ll say is he should get the Combat Action Badge and the Purple Heart.

He should have been hanged months ago.

The letters in the name John Galligan can be rearranged to spell:

"Hang All No Jig"

Says it all for me.

Cheers!

“He’s still getting paid???”

Doesn’t that just FROST you? Will he have to return it all after his conviction? Why is he in a civilian jail? There are banks exclusively for the military, so the BoA/local banks story seems unbelievable. And where is he supposed to spend it, on that lawyer?

Hasan is still getting checks.. He’s doing much better than his victims and MILLIONS of unemployed Americans. What a joke. Is there really any doubt he committed this crime? “Suspect” my azz.

I'm sure the earnings can be held by the Army and he can access through his servicing accounting and finance activity.

Kind of a shame it’s not going to happen in Texas State Court. He’d be on the express lane

If soldiers are required to be paid by Direct Check, then he should already have an account somewhere. What did he do with that one? Did he maybe close the account prior to going on his murder spree as another sign of his premeditation, er, I mean, insanity?

I'll bet no bank wants an account with him because they don't want to be picketed or boycotted.

Or maybe they are scared of the banking straightjacket that Bammy and the Dems just passed forcing them to do something that will lose them money.

Well, the MSM always say that crimes are “alleged” and that someone is a “suspect” until convicted in a court. I know it strains believeability because all of those people are dead. They aren’t allegedly dead, they are actually dead. But we’re not supposed to say for certain why they are dead until the trial is over and a judgement rendered.
