After touring a GM plant in Hamtramck, Michigan today – Mr. Obama stopped at the end of the assembly line and jokingly asked his secret service agent if he would allow him to get in and drive.

The president got in a four door black Chevy Volt and drove for about 10 feet on the assembly line.

“I’m telling you guys, pretty smooth,” The president said with a big smile on his face getting out of the car.

A White House official says that other than that one time previously the president has not driven since he got Secret Service protection in the spring of 2007.

The president’s last car was a Ford Escape Hybrid - the lease was up so it was turned back in, a white House official says.

Maybe he was driving the base model, which only has a range of 10 feet before needing a charge, if you want the 40mile per charge car, that is the upgraded package. But you don’t find out about that, until your about to sign the contract..:)

Seriously, how can this even happen in America? The President obviously favors this car company - he even chided those who criticized his takeover of the company. This is almost a commercial. It's almost too easy to make connections: He pushes a useless electric vehicle to 'save jobs' while crippling the oil workers in the Gulf and putting them out of work. One worker is obvioulsy more worthy than the other.

I wonder if some RICO Statute applies here?
