Who said anything about it being the moral equivalent? I said in my post that even gays don’t believe civil unions to be equal to marriage. That’s why, even though they have civil unions in Oregon, they are still trying to have same sex marriage recognized.

I would ask you to tell me how civil unions are functionally different than marriages, but it would be a complete waste of time.

There is absolutely nothing conservative about legitimizing same-sex relationships. Zero. Zip. Nada.

Okie dokie!

BTW...I never said that I agreed with either of those issues. What concerned me was you being so judgemental. “Judge not, lest ye be judged.”

Have a great night!

I am content that the Lord be my judge.

As for this issue, I fear less being judged by other men as too "judgmental" than judged by God as remaining silent when wickedness is called good.

Then polygamy is permitted. Government can and does have a role to play in marriage, which is why it requires one man and one woman. Arguing that government has no role, effectively destroys the entire concept of civil marriage.

Government is barred from institutionalizing religion by the 1st amendment, and marriage is entirely religious.

Marriage between one man and one woman does not institutionalise one church over another. There’s no 1st amendment violation. Marriage between one man and one woman is a part of the common law and always has been.

Government is forbidden from performing religious ceremonies like baptisms. Like baptisms, marriages are religious, too.

That government interferes in such religious ceremonies is besides the point...they aren’t supposed to.
