'Big Spending' Democrats May Face Town Hall Anger Anew
As members of Congress head back to their districts for the August recess, they could be met by the same rowdy town halls that rocked the national healthcare debate last summer.
As members of Congress head back to their districts for the August recess, they could be met by the same rowdy town halls that rocked the national healthcare debate last summer.
But this summer, record-breaking government spending would fuel the voter uprising, conservatives say.
"This is democracy's way of making a midcourse correction and providing checks and balances to a runaway federal government," Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, told Fox News.
Led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., Democrats face two tough decisions with big economic and political consequences.
First, billions in Bush-era tax cuts are set to expire with rates going back up potentially slowing the recovery unless Congress extends the cuts. Separately, 13 massive government spending or appropriations bills to fund the government next year are almost certain to increase spending.

Even Fox seems to be drinking the kool-aid...
Remember November...
Senator Lincoln, Arkansas-D, just notified me by e mail that she will hold a Town Hall meeting in which she will only accept telephone calls. You have to send in your request to talk and then she will select those who she wants to talk. I am a registered Republican and don’t think she would call me back.
I would call her local office and give her staff flunkie hell over this...
The dems are going to avoid direct contact with the “little people” at all costs, following the clock-cleaning that they got when trying to push their commie-care on us.
Any town hall in which conservatives ask tough questions of Demwit(and Republican)politicians is considered a “rowdy” town hall. Got it.
What do you bet a good number just sign on to one or two convient "Overseas Junkets" to obscure places that their State has no business ties to - but the beaches are nice?
Is it possible that we could see a re-enactment of the storming of the Bastille here in America soon after the Bush tax breaks expire?
Yes, they did. And their clock is getting/has gotten cleaned because of it. Many dems will lose their job because of that. And that makes them afraid to face the public. They wussies don’t wish to reap what they have sewn.
Remember in November!
The shit the leftists are pulling are going to kill the country in 2011.
Many states are letting their "rate caps" on utilities expire in 2011. Higher taxes in 2011. Commie-care in 2011. More and more welfare flying out the door in 2011.
Its all going to come to a screeching halt and Senators like this wish to hide and not address the problems their constituents will face.
The people should demand a law that states “If the peoples approval rate of Congress falls below 10%, they should be closed down. If the approval rate of the President falls below 30%, his office should be shut down and the country will be run by the Supreme Court, as it is today. Supreme Court Justices could not leave office until things are brought back to normal. Or.....if they do leave the Court, a person of the same party would be appointed. In other words it the Judge was a liberal, replace with a liberal, if conservative, replace with a conservative.”
As far as Congress is concerned, maybe only the party in power should be shut down. This may not work but something has to be done by the people instead of continuing to allow them to ruin this country. Along with that, the only money that should be allowed to be spent would be the Military, Social Security, Medicare and Midicade. It would be a start.
Include with my previous statement.....”If Congress is shut down, the President will have no authority to sign other laws or spend any money without the Supreme Courts permission.”
The Rats won’t be holding any town hall meetings this summer: they’re too scared to. But what would really scare them even worse is that if they did hold town hall meetings they’d see that no one would bother to show up because all the people angry enough to show up are too busy channeling their anger into seeing that they are defeated in the November elections. People like me. And my friends. All over the country.
What’s with the completely unnecessary quotation marks?
a $1.4T deficit and too embarassed to even submit a budget for next year and Fox can’t decide that they can confirm the are “big spenders” without quotes?
and Fox is supposed to be rabidly right wing?
What a crock all the way around
“...if they did hold town hall meetings theyd see that no one would bother to show up because all the people angry enough to show up are too busy channeling their anger into seeing that they are defeated in the November elections.”
I think you’re exactly right. What would be the point in showing up at town hall meetings now? It didn’t stop the idiotic health care legistlation. Focus on voting the ba$tards out in November.
They can control the “Town halls.” How do they control the folks they will be campaigning in front of?
I think they haven’t seen nothing, yet!
