Over 6.5 million people watched President Obama on Thursday surrounded by gushing females sitting on a couch.
Tells you a lot about the state of the union, doesn't it?
-snip-
* Thursday's broadcast of "The View," featuring President Barack Obama, qualified as the series' most-watched broadcast ever in Total Viewers (6.59 million), exceeding its previous peak delivery achieved the day after the 2008 Presidential Election (6.17 million, 11/05/08). * Thursday's "The View" also qualified as the series' most-watched broadcast in 17 months among the Key Women Demos 18-34 (516,000/1.5 rating) and Women 18-49 (1.33 million/2.0 rating) - since 3/2/09.

I don't think 6.5 million is really all that many, although I don't know what the potential market is in that particular time period.
It's clear, though, that the greatest percentage of viewers come from old people, and specifically old women, since only 516K out of 6.5M were age 18-34.

I heard or read the largest demographic watching the VIEW are 59 yr old women

I’ve never understood exactly how they know how many people are watching a show

'I heard or read the largest demographic watching the VIEW are 59 yr old women" Given these statistics, that seems very likely. It's a little surprising for me, as I didn't think the View skewed quite that old. I was wrong, apparently.
Not the "soccer mom" audience Obama was trying to reach, IMHO.
To: OldDeckHand
Shrug-- Beck on 5 pm gets more than 4 million viewers, as does O'Reilly. The Daily show at prime time gets a little more than a million.
Think it's a poor showing. And Hasselhoff needs to keep her skirt down. She's practically Basic Instinct here.

No doubt a large number of them weren’t really FANS, but just wanted to see what a dork he could be. And of the ones who were fans at the beginning, I kind of wonder how many still were after watching this self-centered arrogant jerk pontificate for an hour. The likes of Whoopie and Joy Behar can’t help much either.

6.5 Million
People Slack-jawed Idiots Watched Obama On 'The View'
There. Edited for accuracy.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."
To: OldDeckHand
Think about it this way, that is 6.5 million people who saw him call African Americans “mongrels” and discuss the “reptilian mind”.

'Ive never understood exactly how they know how many people are watching a show" They (usually the Nielsen company) have monitoring devices installed in a certain number of homes. They measure what those homes are watching relative to what the other monitored homes are watching - assuming they've sampled the right "mix" of people, they can fairly accurately extrapolate from those measurements what the wider American audiences are watching.

Did they ever think the numbers are higher because more people are unemployed. Nothing else to do but watch TV. Don’t believe this is something Obama should be bragging about.

I thought a photo of the hosts of The View would be appropriate to this thread. I couldn't find one with Elisabeth Hasselbeck in it though. I think Rachel Maddow was sitting in for her that day as guest host.

Obama was talking to his audience on The View. Women who watch The View do so because Oprah is too intellectual and gives them a headache and it's too early for Jerry Springer.

Yes, it is. My mother lived until age 93 and we encouraged her viewership.
She had a consistently too low blood pressure and by watching and screaming at them (”Bunch of d..whomping morons!) she managed to stay within an acceptable BP range.
*I’m not kidding. She hated them.

Hey Obama, how's that post View poll number workin' out for ya'? Time for another crisis? More racism? More class struggle? More Alinsky and Cloward-Piven? Ugh, er, everyone is on to that, so now what? Oh I got it, August is just around the corner and October in not far behind. We'll see if your plans pan out. . . We're ready. . .

'Nielsen Daytime Time stats, African American vs all others:" Interesting. I wonder how closely that same bar graph would mirror the percentage for over weight Americans?
We are told that blacks in America are fatter - and they are fatter - because they don't have the same access to quality food like whitey does. Perhaps it has a little more to do with getting off their asses and stop watching so much TV?

Doubt if the figures are correct - what is from the media. However, I’d say a major part of them are all unemployed. What time is the View on - never watched it. If it’s during the day, I rest my case.
To: OldDeckHand
It's the WHY were they watching...
I watch him 'cuz I think he's a jerk....so a lot of people (like me) watching isn't necessarily a good thing. Gee...I missed him on the view...will I survive??
I DON'T WATCH THE VIEW.

"The View, featuring President Barack Obama I thought "The View" was one of the "chatter" shows that Obama claimed he and his white house do not allow themselves to get are not caught up in.
President Barack Obama has made a mantra out of insisting he and his White House wont get caught up in cable chatter, with aides proudly insisting they dont let 24-hour news outlets drive decision-making.
I view, excuse the pun, Obama's appearance as more of Obama's relentless campaign pontificating.

I’ve always thought a cable company could tell exactly how many people were streaming which channel through their boxes at any given time. Don’t know how DirectTV (satellite) or bunny ears would work without phone polling or willing participation though.

How could one person watch him on that show and not come away with the notion that there is something wrong with his gender preference? He oozes homosexuality. Too bad they did not ask him about his personal trainer, Mr. Love. I am sure he would have blushed and grinned his biggest simian smile then.

Yes, I'm female. And I'd like the only conservative woman on that couch full of harpies and liberal media whores (Babwa Walters admitted to using sex to get access to stories in her autobio) to be a lady.
Would you really want to catch Ann Coulter in a crotch shot on camera? Really? Like Brittney Spears? How about your girlfriend, wife, daughter, sister?
I like that our gals are hotties. I just want them to be ladies, too.
