Troubled Waters (Congressional Black Caucus corruption)
American Spectator ^ | August 2, 2010 | The Prowler

Rep. Maxine Waters who may be facing a formal House of Representatives ethics trial over her activities on behalf of a bank, is just the most recent member of the Congressional Black Caucus to face such an investigation. Currently New York Rep. Charles Rangel is facing an ethics trial, following in the footsteps of ethically challenged Louisiana Rep. William Jefferson. Waters, the long-time Southern California representative, is, according to House sources, facing charges that she provided special access to OneUnited Bank, a Massachusetts based bank that is similar in its history to the notorious ShoreBank in Chicago.

House officials say the Waters investigation is focused on Waters' activities in 2008, when House sources say she had communications with Treasury officials involved in determining whether OneUnited would receive $50 million in funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Waters also serves on the House Financial Services Committee. Those communications are mostly phone calls, say sources, she had with her husband, Sidney Williams, a former board member of OneUnited and a current holder of at least $250,000 in bank stock, as well as with current OneUnited officials and with Treasury officials overseeing bailout program. OneUnited had lost millions in 2008 from holdings it had in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac financial instruments; in the end, OneUnited received $12 million in TARP funds.

Waters has strenuously denied any wrongdoing in the case, and said her contacts -- including setting up a meeting with Treasury officials on behalf of the National Bankers Association, a group of African-American banks and a longtime supporter of Waters and the Congressional Black Caucus -- were in keeping with her longstanding assistance to community-based financial institutions. In that meeting with TARP officials, according to House sources, a OneUnited official with ties to the bankers' association asked for TARP

There are certainly lots of corrupt white politicians (just make a list of Illinois governors), but it's my impression that an even higher fraction of black politicians are corrupt. Has anyone studied this? The NYT loves to report on "disparities", so I'm sure they are working on a story. /s

Here in TN a few years ago the TBI ran a sting on the legislature. They set up a dummy corporation that purportedly recycled computers. Something like seven legislators, all but one black, got indicted. They cried racism, of course. When the facts came out though, it turned out that when the corporation put the word out that they needed some sympathetic legislation, these were the people who came to THEM seeking bribes.

It really does seem that LIBERAL black politicians see “the right to live large” as a part of elective office.

Cultural thing? Entitlement thing? dunno.

But the CBC is full of those who see their office as a means of personal and family/crony enrichment.

Why is Pelosi only picking on the Black members of the Congressional Black Caucus?

What’s the point of geting elected if you can’t use your position to enrich yourself and your friends?

National Bankers Association, a group of African-American banks and a longtime supporter of Waters and the Congressional Black Caucus --

I want to see some PERP WALKIN with this sleaze bag in cuffs.

actually I suspected this might happen.

White presidents have been afraid of going after these CBC members for fear of being called racist.

Only a black president can jail all these black congressional crooks without causing riots.

Members of the black caucus consider themselves UNTOUCHABLE and therefore able to get away with anything because they are black. The perpetual threat of the race card is supposed to quiet/intimidate anyone thinking about exposing these thugs, thieves and liars.

The Klan with a Tan has an unlimited get out of jail free card.

NAACP = racist by name and definition.
CBC = racist by name and definition.
Hispanic Caucus = racist by name and definition.
BET = racist by name and definition.

Regarding corruption; when 6% of the US population commits 50+& of all crimes something is wrong.

I think most all of them see their office as a means to personal enrichment. It is just some think that the race card relieves them of having to take precautions to hide their actions.

OK, so most politicians use their offices for personal enrichment, it’s just that those with a higher melanin content are more brazen about it because they believe they either have a right to do it or can get away with it because of the race shield.

Is this what you’re saying?

Black democrats are the sacred cows of politics. They are elected based almost totally on skin color, and will keep their postitions as long as the pork keeps rolling in. They know they can cry racism when caught with their hand in the cookie jar. They think themselves untouchable and therefore are the most succeptible to corruption. Thankfully, our post-racial president has made the cry of racism ring so hollow that these crooks may now get what’s coming to them.

I don't know. I don't like to think that way. Maybe they just don't have the long term experience to get away with it, or maybe the "old boy" club doesn't reach out to protect them.

I just remember reading that for the TN sting, the agents just basically announced an open house for legislators and these are the ones who came running with their hands out, offering favors in return for money.

Now that we have a black President, it’s time for members like Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel to be held to the same laws like every white member of Congress.

No more “Get Out Of Jail Free Cards” becuase they’re black.
