She was a mom at 5 months and she weighed that much. Wow. How big was that baby?

“Doctors had told Lacatus to go on a diet but she apparently kept eating”
...thus, the death part.

>>Lacatus gained another 44 pounds<<
In 5 months???
This woman had some serious unchecked thyroid problems.

Sad story.
Two comments:
I thought only the USA had morbidly fat people.
How she got pregnant will, hopefully, remain a mystery.

The poor lady!
We have the free will to over eat, over drink or otherwise over indulge in most anything. Once we start, it becomes an addiction and takes special courage, intercession or help to refrain.
Prayers for her soul and the life of her child!

>>Doctors had told Lacatus to go on a diet but she apparently kept eating, the paper reported.<<
She could go down to eating nothing but if she laid in bed all day, her metabolism shut down and she would lose only a pound or two a week. In the meantime, her body would be leeching protein from her muscles including her heart, unless she was put on a high protein diet.
Understanding that she was able to gain nearly 50 pounds in 5 months, something else was going on here.

Concur.
Some things in life I truly don’t need to know.

Relatives of Victoria Lacatus....It is not clear why the baby does not live with her father, Costica Lacatus.
It doesn’t say husband anywhere in the article and i am not willing to make that leap.

528 lbs and 5’3” tall? That averages out to about 100.57 lbs per foot.

“This woman had some serious unchecked thyroid problems.”
Maybe. But probably not. 44 pounds in 22 weeks works out to just 2 pounds per week. If I stopped exercising and doubled my calorie intake, which I think I could do easily, I bet I could gain two pounds per week.

I thought only the USA had morbidly fat people. Yah. That's why it's news.
If it happened here, it wouldn't be news.

Apparently, until he passed away, the world’s fattest man was British. It cost the British taxpayers something like $1,000 a day (it’s a little less in British Dollars, which they weight by the pound, not the stone) to keep him alive.

Coincidentally, Lacatus, in Latin means “quarter ton”.
