Obama-Clinton ticket for 2012 (L. Douglas Wilder)
Politico ^ | 08/02/2010 | L. Douglas Wilder

Posted on 08/02/2010 1:37:45 PM PDT by Responsibility2nd

With midterm elections approaching, and many focusing on politics, more than a few people want to determine what the tea leaves might mean for 2012 — when the “Big One” is on us again.

It would be good for President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party to address some important issues — now.

The president’s poll numbers can be read different ways, depending on who is doing the reading. One thing is clear, though: He has to improve his favorability numbers, as well as the unsettled national mood reflected in the “right track/wrong track” indicators. Neither is easy. Nor is there a simple fix.

But one thing Obama can do is reconnect with the 2008 campaign themes he used to barnstorm the nation: “audacity’ and “change.”

With this state of political fragility, Obama needs to reevaluate the policy advisers who brought him here. That leads to the threshold question of whether Joe Biden should remain on the ticket. I say no.

L. Douglas Wilder is the nation’s first African-American to have been elected governor. He served in that office in Virginia from 1990 to 1994

Mr. Wilder was another one-term wonder.

Ya gotta realize where this analysis is comin’ from!

I think the VP choice makes very little difference one way or the other. Hillary may help with liberal women...but then again, Geraldine Ferraro and Walter Monday lost a mere 49 states to Ronald Reagan.

I think it will be Obama/Clinton in 2012. He’s loosing voters that were solidly for Hillary. Just look at the wedding...The Clintons still draw HUGE crowds while Obama winds up in an uncrowded restaurant with a burger and fries...and of course, there’s the ice cream runs.

Putting Hillary on the ticket in 2012 will make him look like a loser who can’t win without the help of his former opponent. It will totally emasculate him.

Oh, Clinton will be on the ballot all right.

On top. As for who she will pick for VP, I can’t really guess at this time.

But Bammie? Hopefully he will be exiled back to Kenya.

If people get wise that Hillary is more qualified than the prezzydent, it won’t go well for Obama.

Wilder was constitutionally forbidden from a second consecutive term.

He should realize that the problems he mentions of Obama’s are his own fault and the result of Obama’s beliefs.

But hey, there’s plenty of room under the bus for Biden.

I have three things to say:

1. Better to run with her, than against her, 'cause she's gonna run.
2. Hillary Clinton wants to be the first woman President, and;
3. Remember Ft. Marcy Park.

Wilder is trying to give Obama some advice, as they say,”Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” So thus in hoping to keep the Democrat Party from going to war with itself, Wilder is suggesting Barry dumps Biden, so he does not have to fight Hillary in 2012.

It would have to be made to look like Biden was stepping aside voluntarily to pursue other interests and that dropping him from the ticket was no reflection on Biden himself.

Or at least, the Democrats and the press would have to be able to say that with straight faces.

Frankly, with what we've seen from the Obama people so far, it doesn't look like they could manage to do all that without making a mess of things.

Hillary's best chance was running as VP with Kerry. I believe they would have won.

It was just a bad call on her part and the parties part....

I didn't appreciate Wilder, attacking his opponent mainly for being pro-life. However, I believe that Virginia has a one-term term limit. So, serving one term on its own doesn't reflect bad on him.

I agree. I think it will be Obama/Clinton. Particularly if Obama is weak and they lose big in 2010. Clinton will not run against Obama in 2012 unless Obama voluntarily bows out. There is no way Clinton is going to take on Obama in the primaries and alienate the black voters who are the most loyal voters they have. It would forever tarnish the Clinton brand with the black voters

In Virginia, governors can only serve one term by law.

And I think Wilder is probably right-—Obama will shove the bumbling Biden under the bus and bring Hillary on board as his new VP candidate.

We write off the Clintons at our own risk. People on the left still talk about the good old days of "Clinton's Economy". Riding on the coattails of that may be enough to sweep her into the White House if we aren't ready with answers.

I don’t believe that Hitlery would accept a vice-presidential spot on a ticket with Zero, especially if his numbers continue to spiral down the toilet. She has nothing to gain from being on a losing ticket, and I can’t see her being content playing second-fiddle to Zero if the American electorate was stupid enough to give the fool a second term. BTW, the word is “losing” not “loosing”.

Ah, the Clinton economy. The recession had ended in 1991 and the economy was growing smartly when Slick was elected. From 1995 on, the Republican Congress kept Slick from foolish and wasteful Democrat spending, leaving Slick plenty of free time for defending his sexual harassment of Paula and Kathleen, and playing cigar tricks with Monica.
