PRESIDENT Barack Obama has pledged to keep his campaign promise to pull U.S. soldiers out of Iraq by August 31. Obama's vow to end the combat mission in Iraq comes despite increased violence and political tension there.
According to official figures, 535 people died in Iraq in July - the highest figure since May 2008, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The President said "a grateful America must pay tribute to all who served there."
"Remember, our nation has had vigorous debates about the Iraq War," Obama said in a speech at the Disabled American Veterans' national convention in Atlanta.

Rubbish. I’ve got a catechumen who’s preparing to deploy to Iraq as part of a logistics battalion. The “turning out the lights” crew won’t even be into Iraq until sometime in the fall or winter. This is propaganda based on the specious distinction between “combat troops” and “non-combat troops” made up either by the left or some militarily-challenged moron in the diplomatic corps. Obama wants to claim we’ll have withdrawn by then as a campaign talking point for his loony left base.
We still have troops in Germany, how long ago did WWII end?

I suppose we are “winning” if your goal is to solidify the control of Iraq’s Shi’ite pro-Iran (increasingly Sadr friendly)regime.
The left wanted Iraq to fail just as they wanted Vietnam to fail. The two things that scare the political left are the military and strict constitutionalists. Not all leftist are cowards, but all cowards are leftist. The left will only attack people, groups, and institutions that will not fight back, such as the Christian church and the military. You will never see a leftist attack Islam. They would pee in their pants if they thought that a Muslim was angry with them.

Leaving while we are winning does not imply that we have “won”. We have failed to follow our military victories with requisite political victories, that is true. All the more reason not leave.
