Mom, son busted for underage booze bash

A 50-year-old Cohasset mom - charged alongside her teenage son with throwing a wild underage drinking party for nearly two dozen youths - was busted months earlier and ordered to be tested for a possible alcohol problem.

Elizabeth McQuade was arrested May 17 and was order by a judge to undergo an alcohol evaluation "to deterimine if she had a problem," said David Traub, a spokesman for Norfolk District Attorney William Keating.

Before she could be tested, she was busted Saturday and charged with the weekend’s shenanigans.

McQuade and her son, Taylor, 18,pleaded not guilty yesterday in Quincy District Court to charges they let 23 teens drink at their home Saturday.

Police found teens swilling booze and playing drinking games behind 11 Deep Run on Saturday after being called to the residence at about 11 p.m. because of complaints about a neighborhood disturbance and underage drinking party, cops said. Empty beer cans and cups also were found strewn about the property, police said.

When police arrived they also heard a group of about 30 people chanting “take off your shirt” and “we got your shirt off,” a police report said.

“Quite frankly, it’s reckless,” said Cohasset police Lt. William P. Quigley. He added parents of some of the teens present at the party have told cops they had no idea their children were given alcohol. The teens are being summoned to court for being minors in possession of alcohol.

“Some of the parents are quite angry,” Quigley said. “You have to double check your teen’s plans.”

Defense attorney Kathleen Sullivan downplayed the incident.

“They are mere allegations,” she said.

Coven ordered mother and son to abstain from drugs and alcohol and undergo in-home sobriety testing, Traub said.

They are due back in court Aug. 30.

I still don’t understand why a grown adult would want 30 teenagers partying at her house

Efficiency. Because it is a good way for a cougar to have a live stock preview.

Drinking every day doesn’t prove he has a problem. I had a problem. I admit it. I’ve also known people who drank at least a 12 pack every day yet never missed a day of work. The book ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS states clearly there are those who drink too much and will probably die sooner than others but they are not alcoholics.

Again, there is no “test” to prove a person has a drinking problem. Of course, you could always ask the wife. She knows. But she knows from living with a drunk. Not from some test.

Some of the people on this thread a whacked...

There is nothing wrong with kids drinking. I did it, My dad did, My grandfather did it, my great grand father did it and so on. Just don’t let em drive away. Those who wanna drink, put the car keys in the basket, and get them in the morning when you wake up. No one can leave if they have been drinking.

I much rather my kid and their friends do it right here, safe and sound and under my watch, then elsewhere and I don’t know about it.

Those of you who are responding with “It the Law!”... I hope you were a good little angel when you were young, no drinking, smoking, or smokin weed, because if you did, you’re a damn hypocrite.

That kid looks like he weighs in about 210 or so and is about 6ft... He can handle a few beers, and I imagine his peers are close to the same. We’re not talkin about 13 year olds here for cripes sake...

Government is not the solution people... common sense is. This party was ratted out. Something I’m sure more of you are for.

If what someone does, does not harm you or others, mind your own * damn business...

I would suppose...that if you check for alcohol fumes everyday....at different times...that might be a tell..if it's positive.

Yes, I have known functional drunks...that could go to work, every day for years on end. I grew up with some...I've smelled folks that were reeking of alcohol...at work more than once. Peanut butter is what I'm told to hide your breath...is good. HA!!

And I would add....you could always ask the husband...They could probably tell you.

Alcoholism doesn't just effect males......
