Yes, I'm quite apt to use that quote because it illustrates the folly of treating journalism as "the first draft of history." History is supposed to be serious, and representative of reality. The "Man Bites Dog" criterion, OTOH, represents selection of factoids for journalism to hype precisely because they are unrepresentative. Precisely, that is, because it would be fatuous to put them in a history book.If journalism is "the first draft of history," then history is indeed bunk.
How about excerpting so Thomas Sowell gets credit for the number of readers he gets?
