Rep. Jerry Moran (R) joined MI venture capitalist Rick Snyder (R) as proof that the more moderate candidates can still get elected in GOP primaries as he defeated conservative stalwart Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R) in the KS-SEN GOP primary. The AP just called the race for Moran; he leads Tiahrt 49-45% with 87 percent of precincts reporting.
If Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam (R) is successful in the 8/5 TN-GOV GOP primary by winning a decisive plurality against two more conservative challengers, that would make the third-straight major GOP win this week by a moderate candidate that led the primary in fundraising.

Todd Tiahrt ran far more strongly than anyone had expected. Hopefully, he’ll be heard from again.

Hotline is breathless about this, but wait -— Moran is conservative, this was a debate measured in inches not miles. And the election was quite close. And .... “Moran backer Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC).” ... conservative Jim DeMint has not endorsed moderates and RINOs. How is that ‘establishment’???
Better than expected is just another way of saying he lost. Conservatives have still not shown they have the numbers, and will make the effort, to force meaningful change in this Country. The November elections look to be a mixed bag, at best.
Todd Tiahrt should have won. Moran Vs. Tiahrt 12K votes difference, Little + Londerholm 17K votes wasted.
Focus and discipline by voters is required if Our Republic is to survive! JMHO
Haslem is going to win because of his East Tennessee base, big bucks and the relative low name recognition of his opponents. He has certainly not run as a moderate but never the less he will be the next governor of the great state of Tennessee. A GOP pick-up by the way.
Moran isn't a RINO though. So it isn't all bad. It just wasn't good enough.

Well, he did endorse RINO Dino Rossi over Conservative Didier in WA.
Also, Lindsey Graham over a Conservative challenger.
Plus, Barrett over Haley in SC.
And, as noted here, Moran over Tiahrt - where he sided with McCain as Levin, Palin, etc. backed Tiahrt.
That doesn’t include his 2008 endorsement of Mitt Romney for President.
Nobody’s perfect - nobody - not even with endorsements. Nobody.

jerry moran ran a positive campaign. Todd did not. Todds slimy negative campaign sealed the win for jerry.

Tiahrt ran against the media, against huge financial advantages of Moran, against huge differences in the numbers of Registered Republicans in Moran's home district compared to Tiahrt’s home district -—

I would also say that Tiahrt’s race help insura that Mike Pompeo won in the 4th District and that Huelskamp won in the 1st District. (I think I am correct there, been a long night).
Yes, I wish we had done a bit better, but -— Tiahrt is a formidable campaigner, Tiahrt won in the 4th District (Wichita) and Tiahrt won in the 3rd District (Kansas City, KS).

It is a free country, you do not have to be a conservative if you do not want to be a conservative.
However, Moran is dishonest, and claims to be a conservative when he is not.
Moran will now have to KEEP a number of campaign promises, promises that the RINO Moran would NEVER have made, in the first place, if not for Todd Tiahrt FORCING Moran to the right.
I know Jerry Moran. He can not be trusted, he is NOT a conservative. Moran's finger is always in the wind, and he always has his other hand, at your back, with a knife in it.
