Katie Couric, whose real name is Katherine Anne Couric, mocked the names of Sarah Palin’s children during a rehearsal in her studio. Her comments, made during the 2008 presidential campaign, are being discussed in the blogosphere today after being leaked.
“Where the hell do they get these names from?” she asked, referring to Palin children Trig and Track, sending her crew into peals of laughter.
I have some new names for CBS. In a tragedy in Louisiana this Monday, six young teenagers drowned.
Their names were: Takeitha, JaMarcus, JaTavious, Litrelle, LaDairus and Latevin.
These, like the names of Palin’s children, are American names.
Times have changed since Jews newly arrived from Europe named their boys either Marty or Bernie and black people in the South named their kids either Bessy or Washington. You don’t really want to go into things like where the hell a name like Katherine got a K on the front of it instead of a C, as it was spelled in the tradition. The neurosis could drag all the way back to Prague, say, in the 1600s.
The singular feature of America that persists west of 57th Street, where “Katie” and CBS live in paralysis, acting out an early-’60s fantasy equal to that of “Mad Men,” is that we Americans are born free and find and take that freedom in every generation.
In terms anthropologists like Mircea Eliade and Sir James George Fraser would use, you could say we chop down the father’s tree in every generation; an archetypal reenactment of George Washington chopping down the cherry tree to free us from our pasts — European, personal and otherwise — and their anchors to the prisons of orthodoxy and tradition.
In this regard we plant our own tree and we take our own names. It is sacred and symbolic. And in this sacred act we name our kids any damn thing we please.

Elinor Tully “Ellie” Monahan, was born on July 23, 1991; her second daughter, Caroline “Carrie” Couric Monahan, was born on January 5, 1996.
Oh my. She named one daughter Tully and another Couric. Isn’t that precious? s/off

I took classes from a Conservative political-training group in DC where a conservative female media person came in, and described knowing Couric back when she was an intern. Hardest-working, most positive minded intern she had ever known....so don't underestimate Katie Couric. Gave her as exactly the kind of example we as Conservatives should be (as many would be working as interns). I am certain too, she has been corrupted by the media world...where 99% are liberal...and innocents who enter in come out very jaded (and brainwashed liberal, of course).
Wrong on politics, very definitely. Wrong as a network anchor....most definitely. Incompetent generally? Not at all.
And Sarah is laughing all the way to the bank. Sarah doesn’t need your pity.
Just an aside on Katherine with a “K”.
In most European countries, Katherine is spelled with a “K”.
That includes Ireland, Germany, Russia, and almost everywhere except England.
My German great-grandma was “Katherina”. My Irish great-grandma was “Katherine”.
Later on, popular versions of the name became Kathleen, Kaitlin, Kathryn, Katya, Katrina, etc.
All of these latter versions are in use among younger generations of my family.

Would she mock a stupid name like “Shaniqua”? ...I think “Barak” is a stupid name...sounds like the name of a slestak....
One more time. Sarah had nothing to do with the writing of this story or with Katie Couric’s mocking her children’s names during her practice run that was just leaked, but you’re already slamming Sarah for a variety of reasons and we haven’t even heard from her to get her reaction (if any).
I’m all but certain Sarah will find it ‘petty’ -— just one more incident of pettiness by the LameStreamMedia that remains in love with the Barack Hussein Obama (father of Meleeah & Saasha) along with “Joe” Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Rangel and every other corrupt member of the Marxist party.
By all means, point out to me where SARAH complained in this article, I thought this was by some jouranlist..
Oh you were just reading what you wanted to hear into the article about Palin. It was Palin whining and needing to grow up.

Do tell use what’s wrong with what Palin ACTUALLY SAID about Obama. Didn’t sound like a pity party to me.
