Singer Wyclef Jean will announce his bid to run for president of earthquake-ravaged Haiti this week.

The former Fugees star is to seek a five-year term as leader of the nation where he was born.

It has long been speculated Jean might enter the 2010 presidential contest, ever since President Rene Preval appointed him ambassador-at-large for the Caribbean nation in 2007.

Haiti needs a leader who cares about it’s people and has the ability to remove corruption. I believe that Wyclef Jean has the intention to help the people of Haiti, I just hope he has the ability.

Haitians have never had any luck with leadership. Hopefully Wyclef Jean will be an improvement and actually turn things around for the better. As an aside, just because Wyclef Jean wants to run for President of Haiti does not mean he will be elected.

If he wins, it’ll inspire Penn and Co. to run for President in this country.

The only honest or responsible government Haiti ever had was the US Marine Corps.

“The US administration dismantled the constitutional system, reinstituted virtual slavery for building roads, and established a National Guard to take over when they left. It also made massive improvements to infrastructure: 1700 km of roads were made usable; 189 bridges were built; many irrigation canals were rehabilitated. Hospitals, schools, and public buildings were constructed, and drinking water was brought to the main cities. Sisal (plant fiber for making rope) was introduced to Haiti, and sugar and cotton became significant exports.”

When the USMC left, and government restored, all the profits from agriculture were stolen, maintenance of infrastructure stopped, crime and corruption were again unchecked, and the nation returned to its downward spiral until the hereditary presidency of the Duvaliers was established. While utterly corrupt and vicious, they were at least consistent.

This should give us some idea of his political philosophy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pq_3OheqzU

If I was president,
I’d get elected on Friday, assassinated on Saturday,
and buried on Sunday.

If I was president...
If I was president

Instead of spending billions on the war,
I can use that money, to feed the poor.
I know some so poor, when it rains that’s when they shower,
when screaming “fight the power”.
That’s when the vulture devoured

[chorus]
If I was president,
I’d get elected on Friday, assassinated on Saturday,
and buried on Sunday.

If I was president...
If I was president...
If I was president...
If I was president

But the radio won’t play this.
They call this rebel music.
How can you refuse it, children of moses?

[chorus]
If I was president,
I’d get elected on Friday, assassinated on Saturday,
and buried on Sunday.

If I was president...
If i was president

Tell the children the truth, the truth.
Christopher Columbus didn’t discover America.
Tell them the truth.
The truth
YEAH! Tell them about Marcus Garvey.
Tell the children, the truth, yeah! The truth
Tell them about Martin Luther King.
Tell them the truth.
The Truth.
Tell them about JFK

If I was President
[chorus]
If I was president,
I’d get elected on Friday, assassinated on Saturday,
and buried on Sunday.

If I was president...
If I was president
