ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A St. Johns County man was arrested after police said he called 911 to ask for a ride to the liquor store.
Police said 57-year-old George McMurrain had already called 911 twice Saturday night when he called to ask for a ride to buy alcohol.
That's when an officer went to the Budget Inn on Anastasia Boulevard to arrest McMurrain.
Dispatcher: This is 911.
Suspect: I need a, I need a -- a ride.
Dispatcher: You need a ride?
Suspect: Yes, to the liquor store.
Dispatcher: Um.
Suspect: Sheriff said she'd give me a ride.

He should get together with the Ohio woman that called 911 to ask dispatchers out on dates.
And the one who didn’t get her french fries.
“Sheriff said she’d give me a ride. “
and he kept his word
Reminds me of the episode in one of those wildest police videos when the cop stops a drunk driver who falls out of his car, rolls down the hill and the cop asks him what his problem is.
And the man says, “I need a beer.”
Wanna bet:
This guy is on welfare or public assistance...
Has, or once had, a forty year old bike he wheeled around to carry his trash...er belongings....
Harrasses old women for money....and has got his a** beaten a few times for harrassing the wrong people....
Yup, he got his ride okay.
I think you nailed it.
You can’t always get what you want. But sometimes you get what you need.
Hello? AJAX Liquor Store?
A classic from 1980!
The guy was clearly not a threat, so rather than just telling him to go sleep it off they arrest him? How much will did that cost the taxpayers, and what other duties did everyone involved put off? This is just stupid - the cops in my town are always whining about not having enough resources and then they do crap like this. Of course while every other government functionary is on unpaid furlough, the police union gets their members a 5% raise every year. And I don’t want to hear the “we put our lives on the line” canard - there are a lot of jobs far more dangerous than police work, but you don’t hear those folks always bitching.
PS - did they shoot his dog?

"You mean all those years, all I had to do was ashk for a r-ride?"
They probably picked him up rather than say NO, because he might have then driven while drunk to get to the liquor store.
In Florida he shouldn’t have needed a ride to the liquor store. As I recall, the last time I was there, it appeared that there was either a liquor store or a strip club on every corner. That is, unless there was a trailer park taking up the entire block.
Nonsense. 1) Anyone with a car and drunk enough to call 911 for a ride to the liquor store would have just driven themselves, and 2) The cops could show up, take his keys, and tell him to pick them up at the station in the morning.
No shirt.
