Fiorina opposes Kagan nomination for Supreme Court
The Los Angeles Times ^ | August 4, 2010

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina is opposing President Barack Obama's nomination of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court, citing Kagan's lack of experience on the bench. Her announcement Wednesday comes as her opponent in the November election, Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, said she will support Kagan.

The Senate is expected to vote Thursday on Kagan's nomination to succeed retiring Justice John Paul Stevens.

Fiorina says the nominee has admirable qualities that make her suitable for her current position as Solicitor General or even as a lawmaker. But Fiorina says Kagan lacks the judicial experience to join the court.

She also says Kagan's lack of a public record makes it unclear how Kagan would interpret the Constitution.

It took guts for Carly Fiorina to do this in liberal California. Kudos to her.

How kind of her. When will she change her mind? When it benefits her.

I heard Fiorina on Laura Ingraham’s (I think) show today. Sounded pretty reasonable and right of center. Between her and Boxer it’s a no-brainer.

Californians aren’t all Liberal. Everywhere I go and everyone I talk to in CA is big-time enraged. Mention Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Boxer, Feinstein and you immediately hear a string of 4-letter profanity. The few RATs that I’ve talked to are changing parties or not voting. They’re also apologizing for ever voting for Hussein.

“Admirable qualities”? Sounds like Fiorina is too tepid in her opposition to Kagan.

Fiorina is a better candidate for CA than I would have hoped for.

Whitman on the other hand...

That seems to be a running theme.

Fiorina has mostly stayed right, even though it cannot benefit her in CA. Whitman leapt leftward as soon as she had the nod..

I will be pissed if Whitman wins and Fiorina loses.

Here’s one who would oppose Kagan if she were Senator.

I'm shocked that Scott Brown is also voting against the hometown heroine too. Harvard and other MASS liberals will be infuriated.

Good moves by Brown and Fiorina.

If that piece of dead skin Dick(head) Lugar (one of the 5 who may have been the first to declare his support) runs again in 2012 he needs to be taken out in the primary. Everyone talks about Lindsay Graham while the markedly worse old man Lugar flies under everyone’s radar.

She is no Jesse Helms but she’ll be the most conservative Senator from Cali since George Murphy. Unlike the liberal Whitman she deserves support.

He’s been an uber douche since he flamed out running for POTUS back in 1996.

Personally, I did like his idea of a national sales tax (in lieu of an income tax) though.

I used to like that idea but I changed my mind. It would require a huge new welfare program (to pay everyone their rebates) and it would unfair to retired people (they'd have to pay sales tax to spend retirement money they'd already paid income tax on).

Good points Impy. Is the ‘fair tax’ much different though?
