It will take a massive economic rebound between now and 2012 for Obama to survive....or a lackluster GOP opponent. Unfortunately for all, the later option is actually a much larger possibility.

I despised Obama before it became fashionable.
The downside to everyone else catching up is that one can’t anymore feel superior and smarter then the masses.
The upside is if the masses turn smart enough to make Obama impotent in 2010 and drive him out of town in 2012.
This is my concern as well. The significant sign, IMO, is that now elected Democrats as well as their campaign wonks are starting to make open critical remarks and analysis of the Obama administration.
This should go up once he pays off mortgages and starts a war with Iran.

I actually think that at this point they don't mind the idea of losing control of Congress - they desperately need a boogey-man to go negative on (that is all they know how to do, demonize the opposition, because they have no actual ability to function in any way other than in the manner of a corrupt African or Central American junta).
They (the Democrats) need someone they can demonize and blame, otherwise all the attention will be on their own incompetence and corruption. Going negative, demonization, is their only game and they can't use it if they have complete control like they do now.

I am afraid you are right. They have populist options and they will use them. We have to focus on the umemplyment rate and the debt. They can run from these numbers, but they cannot hide.

The recent decision here in CA pursuant to Prop 8, concerning homo marriage, can only help pull this Marxist’s approval ratings down even farther. So as they say, “behind every cloud there’s a silver lining”.

1) They deserve it for the counter insurgency they have flamed in Iraq.
2) Any bounce he gets will fall away quickly
3) It will destroy his base of far left peaceniks, especially the non-black ones.

Yep, if the poll numbers are generally the same in Nov. 2012 Obama won’t be re-elected. 50% or more disapproval for an incumbent up for re-election is the kiss of death.

I don't think the mortgage payoff is going to happen. All the Republicans have to do is say:
What about all the people that paid their mortgage on time, or didn't buy a house at inflated prices, or remortgage their house to go on a spending spree? What are they going to get?
You might think: that's ludicrous. And you would be right. But, this is almost exactly the argument that Democrats made when tax rebates were distributed: they insisted that people who didn't actually pay federal income taxes get them as well. And the Republicans rolled over.
If the Republicans won't do it, then we have to. A sustained public outcry against special treatment for people that are underwater on their mortgage would sink it (no pun intended).
Of course, I'm not so sure that actually doing it would help the Democrats anyway. Most of the potential beneficiaries are likely to vote for them anyway, and the backlash among the rest of us that have to pay for it would probably be more than enough to counteract any positive effect.
