U.S. Delegation Will Not Offer Apology at Hiroshima Ceremony
FOXNews.com ^ | August 5, 2010 | Joshua Rhett Miller

The U.S. delegation will not offer an apology for dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki when it attends a ceremony in Japan on Friday marking the 65th anniversary of the attacks, which brought World War II to an end.

State Department spokesman Noel Clay said no apology will be offered by the delegation, to be led by U.S. Ambassador John Roos, at the ceremony in Hiroshima.

"As Assistant Secretary [P.J.] Crowley stated, at this particular point, we thought it was the right thing to do," Clay said in an e-mail on Thursday. "Ambassador Roos will attend the ceremony to express respect for all the victims of World War II. From the tragedy of that war, the U.S. and Japan have become close friends and allies. We must continue to work together to ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again."

The Humanity of the Hiroshima bomb

It is one of the absurdities of modern Political Leftism. They want to argue that it was some how immoral to use the Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombs. That we could of “Besieged” the Japanese islands and forced them to surrender

That is utter nonsense. The infrastructure of the Japanese islands was breaking down. Japan could not feed itself and relied on food imports. Instead of killing Japanese Civilians in the tens of thousands. The Leftist “Siege” would of killed millions from disease, starvation and malnutrition. Eve then there is no indication that would of broke the Japanese will. Japanese soldiers hung on various pacific islands for decades after WW 2 ended. Even after the bombs dropped die hard militarists tried to stop the Emperor from surrendering.

Then there is the question. What response would the Japanese been to an invasion and occupation. Given our recent experience with the Iraqis and “Insurgency” what do you suppose a Japanese Insurgency would of done?

It is possible the Japanese would not have survived as a people? The Japanese civilian and military casualties on Siapan and Okinawa were horrific. Give the intensifying tempo of suicide attacks by the Japaneses, the fire power brought down on the Japanese Home Island prior to and during an Invasion would of killed tens of thousands if not millions of civilians as well as military forces.

Dropping the Atomic bombs was an act of humanity that preserved tens of thousands, if not millions, of lives.

“It’s making the Japanese look like they’re the poor people, like they didn’t do anything,” he said. “They hit Pearl Harbor, they struck us. We didn’t slaughter the Japanese — we stopped the war.”

From later in the article:

"We welcome the visit," he told The Associated Press. "But without an apology, it is difficult for us. We aren't asking for reparations. We simply want the U.S. to apologize and get rid of its nuclear arsenal."

Sheesh, is that all? Want fries with that?

They won’t be apologizing because Obama doesn’t want to be pre-empted. He’d rather apologize himself by groveling at their feet in person.

The bombs were dropped back in a day when men were men and when you went to war, you kicked the enemy’s teeth in and they respected you afterward. Not like today’s wars of “making friends.”

(FTR: Today’s military men ARE still men and deserve our utmost respect...I just wish they weren’t fighting with one hand tied behind their back.)

Included in that is the assumption, at the time, we saved over a million of our boys lives by dropping the bomb. War is not about saving the agressor, it’s about stopping the aggressor from destroying us.

In todays world, we have seemed to forget that fact. We are using our greatest resource, our kids, to further others desires.

The USA should NOT apologize for Hiroshima.Period.

War is hell and total war kills totally without discrimination.

We know this as do the Japanese....time to move on.

The leftist scum now in power despise America, its history and the vast majority of its people (who they regard either as sheep to be led or enemies to be marginalized and destroyed). Try and imagine how WWII would have turned out with the likes of Resident Hussein and his cronies in power. This bunch is ignorant but thinks itself wise; cowardly but thinks itself heroic; lawless but thinks itself principled. This bunch is corrupt, autocratic and defeatist. Their only goal is power and they will use any expedient means to attain and hold it.

Would have. Would HAVE. Or would've. But not "would of."

You make some good points, but these kinds of errors detract from what you're saying, and give those who would disagree a hook on which to hang their dismissal of your arguments.

The Japanese were preparing for our invasion. They were even arming women and children with spears to fight us. They were going to fight to the last man, woman, and child, to destroy themselves as a race rather than surrender. Our dropping of the bomb stopped this carnage. They should thank us for ending the war with the few thousand casaulties the two bombs caused. And while at it, thank us for preventing the Russians from occupying Japan, and for bringing in democracy and supporting their economy.

Apologize? Unthinkable! That war has been over for 65 years. I wonder if the Japanese have apologized for the victims of their terrifying human experiments at Harbin or the rape of Nanking?

“It’s making the Japanese look like they’re the poor people, like they didn’t do anything,” he said. “They hit Pearl Harbor, they struck us. We didn’t slaughter the Japanese — we stopped the war.”

The Japs are throwing their annual August Pity Party. It would get less coverage if they had detonated their own atomic bomb, it would make them less pitiable. Some say they did, in the last days of the war after Nagasaki just as the Russians were overrunning Manchuria.

Research the terms 'Genzai Bakudan' and/or 'Genshi Bakudan'. Watch the videos on YouTube:
Japan's Atomic Bomb Part 1
Japan's Atomic Bomb Part 2
Japan's Atomic Bomb Part 3
Japan's Atomic Bomb Part 4
Japan's Atomic Bomb Part 5

Fascinating, even if its a myth. The Japs would have deployed the Genshi Bakudan with much less debate and introspection than the Americans showed.

If anything, Japan should thank the US for ending the war quickly and with far less blood-shed than an invasion of Japan would have entailed.

I completely agree.

Just take the civilian casualties on Okinawa and extrapolate that to the home islands' population and millions would have died. And it would have been very bad for the American troops too. A lot of men who came home wouldn't have.

A siege would have accomplished nothing. The bombing campaign was winding down because there was almost nothing left for LeMay to destroy. But they would not surrender. Even after two atomic bombs were dropped there was determined opposition to surrender and the decision was a very near thing.

The Japanese had been brainwashed about Americans and what would happen to them if they were captured by American forces. There were many suicides off "suicide cliff" on Okinawa, even as American troops begged them not to jump. Imagine mass suicides like that across Japan.

Millions of lives were saved by the bombs.

As Marine Corporal Melvin Grant, whose brother Scott had been killed at Kunishi Ridge, recalled nearly 61 years after the first bomb fell: “We were thrilled, utterly thrilled when we heard the news. Using the bomb was the thing to do, and we did it, and I had absolutely no regrets. We did it to save lives...”

“I was happy and relieved,” added Sergeant Jack Armstrong if the First Marine Tank Battalion. “Hearing about the bomb gave all of us a big lift, and for the first time in a long time, we felt there was a ray of hope. Maybe we wouldn’t have to invade Japan after all. Maybe I’d actually make it home alive.”
