WikiLeaks posts huge encrypted file to Web

LONDON – Online whistle-blower WikiLeaks has posted a huge encrypted file named "Insurance" to its website, sparking speculation that those behind the organization may be prepared to release more classified information if authorities interfere with them.

At 1.4 gigabytes, the file is 20 times larger than the batch of 77,000 secret U.S. military documents about Afghanistan that WikiLeaks dumped onto the Web last month, and cryptographers say that the file is virtually impossible to crack — unless WikiLeaks releases the key used to encode the material.

I only read as far as this from a poster calling himself "Pee on Jews"

Listening to these clowns on here bandy about terms like 'traitor', 'spy', "treason', etc etc.....makes one want to laugh !

First of all, as the head of Wikileaks is neither a US citizen nor residing within any part of the USA or it's territories, it is impossible for the man to be considered a 'traitor' bent upon 'treason'.....he is obligated neither morally or ethically to conceal evidence of a crime being committed, no matter WHAT the source !

WELL DONE, WIKILEAKS !

It seems representative of the posts favorable to Wikileaks.

I am sure that the Pentagon knows what is in the files. If it was of such importance and sensational enough, It would have likely already been leaked. This vile dufuss is just singing to his choir.

If I did this I would post the large encrypted file to the web and then email the key to the NSA. I would encrypt the key with one of their own public keys.

This way they would know the data was real and what it was.
It looks too much like a desperate hoax otherwise.

Swingin ropes, chandeliers, platforms, flying medusa heads, etc. Only platform that I ever really liked. The gothic, moody dracula music kinda sucked me in ;)

"There are guys over at No Such Agency that eat this stuff for breakfast. It will be broken within the week."

In the days of William Donovan and the OSS, Julian Assange would have already accidentally drowned in his bath tub and "Wikileaks" would be the web address of a 24 hour plumbing service in Brooklyn.

“The US Army intelligence analyst, who is half British”

Susan Manning, 56, moved to the US in 1979 after marrying Bradley’s American father Brian Manning, a former serviceman

Brian Manning was born in Oklahoma and Served in the Army for 5 Years, While he was stationed in England he met Susan. They Move to Oklahoma in 1979. Bradley Manning was born in Crescent Oklahoma.

He most likely had Duel Citizenship.

After his Parents divorced he went to Wales with his mother, he wasn't very good in British schools. The brits don't put up with jerks. (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/campaigns/our_boys/3073427/Is-geeky-soldier-schooled-in-Wales-the-WikiLeek.html)

Pvt Manning moved to Oklahoma where he didn't do much till he joined the Army in 2007.

To be an Intelligence Analyst you have to go through a thorough background investigation to get a Top Secret SCI clearence. What I learned about this clown he should of had it pulled while he was at Fort Huachuca.

There has been a lot of piss poor reporting on this individual.

I owe you an apology you posted a link that you thought was correct but it wasn't.

It doesn’t even have to be encrypted. It could just be a large file of random bytes. As long as others think it is an encrypted file, they will waste copious quantities of resources attempting to decrypt it. Garbage in. Garbage out.

Wikileaks doesn’t have the key. They are hoping some hacker can crack it.

Manning has the key and he ain't talking.

I say send some special ops personnel and snatch Julian Assange, take him on an all-expenses paid trip to Gitmo, and proceed to waterboard his ass until he coughs up the encryption.

A friend of terrorists deserves no less.

Kocher, of Cryptography Research, agreed, saying that the only conceivable way anyone outside of WikiLeaks could decode “Insurance” was if Assange and his colleagues had used a blatantly obvious password or experienced some kind of “catastrophic algorithm error.”

“We’re not going to find out what’s in that file unless somebody reveals the key,” Kocher said.”

Or...unless somebody has a lot of time. AES-256 is safe indeed…today. Ciphers have a limited life span. They keep things secret for a few years. State secrets, however, are often supposed to stay secret for decades. They are not going to stay secret for decades if you release them today, with an algorithm that is safe today, but probably not in five years. If my secret data were in that file, I would treat those guys as if they had released it unencrypted already.

I went to wikileaks home page and it is run on the FOIAct.

I think all of this bottom line is to do NET NEUTRALITY censorship. I read that someone said DU has an article up that some dumbassed progressive is really pushing NET NEUTRALITY. Obama et al don’t want anything critical of them before they progressively turn us into a hitler state.

It isn’t ineptness when the administration’s lack of will to clean the gulf, seal the border, enforce immigration laws, or prosecute traitors doesn’t exist. They are the fox in the hen house, the 1968 radicals are in charge now and they see nothing wrong.

It is willful neglect and deliberate.

“PGP is uncrackable even by the CIA/NSA.”

Yup, that’s what NSA says, so encrypt all your sensitive stuff with PGP! NSA would never fib about a widely available public crypto system, like they’d never pull all telegrams sent from the USA.
