The Pentagon demanded on Thursday that WikiLeaks do the right thing and remove from its Web site tens of thousands of classified documents about the war in Afghanistan, and return to the military thousands of others that it had not yet made public. Geoff Morrell, the Pentagon press secretary, said the Web sites disclosure last week of a six-year archive of some 77,000 documents gave the Taliban and other militant groups insights into American military tactics and techniques, showed how the United States protects its troops in war zones and revealed the names of Afghan informants and how the military cultivates them.
Most of Mr. Morrells briefing focused on the information WikiLeaks had already made public. But Pentagon officials are especially concerned about 15,000 additional documents that WikiLeaks has withheld so far to remove identifying information...
Mr. Morrell acknowledged that given WikiLeaks past history of disclosing confidential information, he did not have high hopes that the organization would comply with the Defense Departments demand.
Mr. Morrell said that if asking WikiLeaks respectfully did not work, the Pentagon would resort to other steps, which he did not describe. We will figure out what other alternatives we have to compel them to do the right thing, he said...

Maybe one well-placed Lapua slug in Mr. Assange’s head? Nah, what am I saying, this administration would never have the cojones to do that to a fellow traveler.

I saw him plead for the return of the docs. it was childish , stupid and sad. we got teenagers handing our free candy and cry babies running the country..I think its all a show and the admistration had a hand in it.
I propose area weapons to make sure ALL of them are tagged out.
I hope this is a fail for them...it certainly is not good for our troops.
This makes Valarie Plame look like a pissant .
No one is going to try put toothpaste back in a tube.
Pointless exercise.
Especially when this administration is the one who leaked this info.
As I stated on another thread, if this had occurred during the time of Bill Donovan’s OSS, Mr. Assange would have already accidentally drowned in his tub, and the wiki-leaks domain would be owned by a Hawaiian 24-hour on call plumbing service.
The gov’t doesn’t seem to understand the internet, though.
In my opinion, this is the kind of action that would fully justify such a response on the part of a government. I bet they wouldn't have done it to the Israelis or the Russians!
I have yet to see a whole lot on exactly how these documents got into the hands of “WikiLeaks” in the first place. SOMEONE had to lose/misplace/give them out. Has that person or persons been identified and arrested?
I don’t believe that the US Constitution applies to classified documents/data! And for any non-US Citizens, then I see no holds barred.
But regardless, what rat in the O’s administration is responsible for the leak in the first place?
The almost undisturbed silence on this topic from the White House has been amazing. The Justice Department’s lack of action says a lot too.
Obama is unqualified to be President.
He doesn’t have the tools. He doesn’t have the inclination.
Isn’t it that Army private, Bradley Manning? Google his name and see what you get.
PVT Manning should be executed for treason.
You know every day they uncover more muslim terrorists living in ,and betraying their country, and every day they announce new threats being plotted against us and our leadership in the White House show therir incompetaence and cowardice.
All the hoopla over the government’s fighting of cyber terrorism and shutting down of pro terrorists site and they cannot bring down this website?just unbelieveable.
Mother was not survived.
Well - it appears that “Pvt. Manning” is a traitor. While I can understand a true patriot wanting truth to come out if there were ongoing activities that were counter to the US best interest and well being.
But isn’t it kind of interesting that he didn’t seem to “man up” until he was demoted. Sounds more like a disgruntled employee’s temper tantrum.
But regardless, the data leaked in regards to Afghanistan operations equates, in my eyes, as treason, not just “unauthorized release/use”.
Of course, the left hails him as some sort of hero - but that should come as no surprise - anything bad for America is good news to the Left.
