A court-appointed receiver is suing the LDS Church for tithes made by a Utah man accused of securities fraud.
In a lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Lon A. Jenkins claims that Robert Casey Hall fraudulently transferred $160,306 to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through one of his companies and its entities.
The money — which was tithed in six payments from May to October of 2006 by RCH2 LLC, Future Tech LLC and WW LLC — is among the assets that Jenkins is trying to take control of as receiver in a civil enforcement suit by the Securities Enforcement Commission.
That enforcement action, which is ongoing, claims Hall and RCH2 were taking money to invest in real estate but put a large percentage of the funds in high-risk trading accounts. The SEC alleges that RCH2 owes investors more than $14 million.
The lawsuit is seeking at least $160,306 plus interest from the church.
LDS Church spokesman Scott Trotter said Thursday that the receiver’s claim is being evaluated.
“The church has a long-standing policy of not profiting from ill-gotten gains,” Trotter said.
Based upon headlines of the past 18 months, there's gotta be a waterfall effect of this decision upon other cases involving $ going to the Lds church.

What does that mean
either the guy gave the mormon corporration all, that money or he didnt ...
If he gave the money then the mormon corporation better give it back...
If they keep it they are thieves ...

whether or not they were thieves before or will be in the future is for another thread...
As he “transferred” the $160,000+ to the mormon corporation there will be ample records so the proof is there and the money must all be returned...

and then of course the selling of tickets to “see” the mormon god in the temples...loosely called “tithing”
Did i mention kidnapping children and holding them for ransom ???
SEC always goes after bad money given to charities, i.e. Madoff. The charities can certainly contest it and in a case like this and may not have to give any money back at all.
I think we need to WAIT to see what the COURT decides in this matter...
Know who else got in trouble for fraud? Joseph Smith in the days before he wrote the Book of Mormon, made himself wealthy and powerful, and married a boat load of women (and a couple children) did.
I agree. As much as I hate the Mormon church, there should be a lawful basis for a demand to return the money.
It could be that this lawsuit is simply a formality and that the church is willing to return it it looks at the lawsuit.
If the return was requested and the LDS church said no; well that’s a different matter. That would be dishonest.
