CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A Riverdale man said he felt mistreated after an officer shot and killed his dog in response to a false alarm Friday.

“It’s not right. It’s just not right for Clayton County police officers to do that,” Stacy Clark told Channel 2’s Rebecca Lindstrom.

Police officers said they thought there was a holdup at the house. When they arrived, Clark’s dog, Jadore, came running out and one officer didn’t have enough time to grab his pepper spray, police said. He reached for his weapon instead, police said.

Clark said Officers asked everyone in the house to step outside, and three of them were ordered to the ground and handcuffed. Police removed the handcuffs after verifying their identities.

That’s when Clark noticed Jadore wasn’t moving, he said.

When Clark asked what happened, he said he was told, “I shot it. Just point blank, I shot it.”

Did any Koreans show up shortly after the shooting pulling a barbecue trailer?

Why do cops do this? Because they can.

Compared to many others here, I have a strong inclination to give Police officers the benefit of the doubt, but these weekly stories of uncalled for unjustified trigger happy killing of peoples pets, really makes me want to re-examine that inclination. A person who will use deadly force on an animal simply because “policy” says they can, may be inclined to use deadly force on a person in similar situation.

As long as I can remember I have been a strong supporter of the death penalty even believing it should be used more often and more quickly. Part of that support was based on the belief that prosecutors would only seek the death penalty in cases where guilt was certain. yet a number of cases in the last few years have shaken that faith.

I, on the other hand, feel that police should not be given the benefit of the doubt; they should be held to a higher standard.

MAY? If its not a cop and they are abusing an animal the standard response is they will do it to people if they arent stopped.

Rumor has it they only respond to a home alarm if there’s a dog they can shoot.

What is with these repeated episodes of cops blowing away the family dog? Is the overall quality of law enforcement in a state of decline?

It is no longer just those at the margins of society who are losing respect for the police. Here in NC, the head of the State Highway Patrol resigned in disgrace because there were so many cases of misconduct among the NCHP. It is troubling when those who are entrusted with so much authority and power are seen as having little in the way of judgment, discretion, or common sense. And it undermines the credibility of all the good officers out there.

There is way too much of this wanton cruelty being displayed by the JBTs theae days. I used to trust and support local law enforcement. With their increased militarization and inexcusable brutality, I no longer feel that way. They’re on their own and I will absolutely vote NO on anything they’re pushing politically.

This crap is going to stop once homeowners start returning the favor, on the spot. A few cops blown away will convey the message that people don’t want their pets killed.

Weekly???

If I posted every single story I found on a DAILY basis of cops shooting, tazing, kicking, abusing and even running over dogs because whatever reason I'd crash the FR Servers...

Its not weekly, its almost hourly this stuff happens.

I agree, they should be held to a higher standard.

The quality of the candidates in the police academies many years ago was much higher than it is today. Actually, that fact has been documented.
