America Is at Risk of Boiling Over
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 08-07-10 | PEGGY NOONAN

And out-of-touch leaders don't see the need to cool things off.

It is, obviously, self-referential to quote yourself, but I do it to make a point. I wrote the following on New Year's day, 1994. America 16 years ago was a relatively content nation, though full of political sparks: 10 months later the Republicans would take the House for the first time in 40 years. But beneath all the action was, I thought, a coming unease. Something inside was telling us we were living through "not the placid dawn of a peaceful age but the illusory calm before stern storms."

It’s just one long article trying to lower expectations. They know things are not working out, but they will never admit it’s due to their socialist ideas. So they say get use to it.

I am not feeling the sincerity here.......anyone...?

I feel the sincerity or maybe it's a growing fear I sense. Most Americans today "on the ground" are experiencing the same fear, the same growing sense of dread that the politicians have waged war on the people, that they won't stop their destructive ways until they're forced to stop.

We don't have any real idea how it will play out, we hope to turn it around with our ballots in Nov. but I think Peggy, like most of us, sees that the government doesn't care, doesn't have the same sense of impending doom. I think she sees the futility of trying to tell them. I think she's sincere and afraid.

And she can't address immigration without resorting to that overused and untrue nonsense.

Lord I'm so tired of that old strawman argument, it's called self deportation Peggy. If Peggy's gotten that soft in the head, maybe it's time for her to retire.

What's off topic? He is discussing Peggy Noonan. Did someone die and make you Jim R?

Peggy cares more about turning a deathless phrase than making sense.

I don’t believe you’ve asked that question.

It’s obvious.

Note that she is saying today, long after she was outed as nothing more than an elitist snob, that she had this "feeling" just after Republicans took over the House for the first time in 40 years.

Something inside was telling us we were living through "not the placid dawn of a peaceful age but the illusory calm before stern storms."

I notice she didn't provide a link or source to prove this.

Oh, it's Peggy "see I was right 16 years ago" Noonan.

I cannot read more than a few paragraphs her wordy, unctuous tripe.

He may have drifted a little but he started on the topic.

Wow, I didn’t know that posting a thread meant one owned it.

Maybe I’ll post a thread and lay down the law. Might be fun.

I'm actually a Noonan fan, but I don't think this piece does a very good job of articulating the anger that the fly-over populace has against the politicians and judges who are ignoring the will of the majority.

We have lost control of our judiciary and we need to do whatever it takes to get it back. State after state, with sizable margins, has passed referendums against gay marriage, and Congress passed the Defense Of Marriage Act. And yet the discussion all week has been that this will be decided by an evenly divided Supreme Court with Kennedy being the swing vote.

Why are so few people getting to make these decisions, while completely ignoring the will of an overwhelming majority?

Since when does a single judge from a liberal area get to make sweeping cultural changes?

The states need to reassert dominance over the feds. The Governors and States Attorneys General will need to lead this fight.

And Congress needs to reign in the Judicial branch.

Peggy, it's not that complex. The reality is that Washington, and politics in general tends to attract narcissistic morons. Plain and simple. The day we start looking AND treating them as the clowns that they are, and give them less than 0 respect, AND hold all elected public officials to a total of 12 years total service, is the day that the country begins to heal and to move FORWARD. Don't look to the academy to define progress, or to even know the direction in which progress moves. Look to the thoughts, actions, and souls of sincere individuals. Look to those who think for themselves, not those who believe they think for themselves but who spend most of their time conforming their views to what the ‘intellectually hip’ have defined as ‘smart’’.

I believe you are smart, but the fact that you were taken in by someone as obviously sophomoric as Obama makes us wonder when and why you stopped being yourself. Wake up.

Its somewhat encouraging to see hand-wringing on the part of RINOS and DEMS; they are all late to the party but may well help sway the spineless MOR fence-sitters.

Any break in the MSM dike is welcome. ( I’m trying to fit as many acronyms in as I can!)

We have to get them to this point before we push them to realize you can “repatriate” 12 million illegals humanely with enough common will.

Think of the job opportunities....

I just ignore posts like that.

Admit it, you got a little testy and sounded like Miss I Won.

It’s okay, but watch it, we’re a cranky crowd.

At RISK of boiling over?????? How about boiling over period!!!

On top of ALL the other outrages, like death panels, after being lied to about them, how about paying about 500k to 1M for Michelle Antoinette effing Obama to go to Spain! The Witch thinks she was just elected queen!

Far as I’m concerned we shouldn’t even pay for her to go to the GD garbage dump.

I’m not so sure they have any intention of ever leaving the WH due to a technicality like “stupid elections”. These people have the mindset of all left wing dictators throughout history...lie to the voters, get in power, destroy everyone impeding your path, shower yourself with the spoils until you die - one way or the other.

Thank you for posting.

I've listened to Dennis Prager for years.

I admire his wisdom and his reasoning and his gift of explanation.
