A Muslim victim of 9/11: 'Build your mosque somewhere else'
The Washington Post ^ | August 8, 2010 | Neda Bolourchi

Posted on 08/08/2010 4:25:07 AM PDT by decimon

I have no grave site to visit, no place to bring my mother her favorite yellow flowers, no spot where I can hold my weary heart close to her. All I have is Ground Zero.

On the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, I watched as terrorists slammed United Flight 175 into the South Tower of the World Trade Center, 18 minutes after their accomplices on another hijacked plane hit the North Tower. My mother was on the flight. I witnessed her murder on live television. I still cannot fully comprehend those images. In that moment, I died as well. I carry a hole in my heart that will never be filled.

From the first memorial ceremonies I attended at Ground Zero, I have always been moved by the site; it means something to be close to where my mother may be buried, it brings some peace. That is why the prospect of a mosque near Ground Zero -- or a church or a synagogue or any religious or nationalistic monument or symbol -- troubles me.

>

...I fear it would become a symbol of victory for militant Muslims around the world.

Nope. It was Rev. Mahoney, the Chief Chaplain of the NYFD. How soon you forgot!

So you propose a church that stood there for over 200 years (1766) is to be taken away? It is a historical landmark, period.

Too many, even here on FR, forgot already. Forgot President Bush’s resolve, his efforts to bring the murdering scum to justice.

So very true.

“I witnessed her murder on live television.”

OMG! That never occurred to me! The victims families watched the murder of their loved ones on live TV. Gives me goosebumps.

How soon we have forgotten.....Please note Blooming Idiot Mayor.

George Washington attended services there.

Mayor Bloomingidiot was also in favor of having the terror trial in NYC. When the outcry became too loud, he backed off.

He is a sickening example of liberalism gone insane.

Apparently it’s not the “right” kind of church. We must be “tolerant”. /s

On Bloomberg....

Liberal Piety and the Memory of 9/11 The enlightened class can't understand why the public is uneasy about the Ground Zero mosque.

And a gentleman from this group was on FNC this morning...

The 911 Hard Hat Pledge

They're pledging not to work on the project unless it's moved away from Ground Zero.

Thank the hard hats for remembering.

Too many so called Americans seem to subscribe to Rev. Wright’s position that our chickens came home to roost.

Damn them for all time.

Exactly ,Fox had a Union Leader on this morning who is leading a Movement to Have No Hard hats or anyone who supports them work on this project. He said he would build it anywhere else but not on that site. He said this is not aimed at being anti religion or Anti Muslim ,if the Imam who wants to build this Mosque called him at home with a roofing problem he would be there with 10 guys to fix it for him,but how Many 13 story Mosques do you see? They are all 2 stories, this is an Insult, this should not be built on that site

"It’s still a church."

Like the readers of this thread hadn't figured that out. Thanks for enlightening what stupid rubes that didn't.

It rang to me like saying the Constitution is only a piece of paper.

If you meant it to be sarcastic, wonderful. This whole episode still knaws at my soul and will to the day I meet our maker whan all questions will be answered, especially the smallest one; WHY?

Please, please use the /s notation to be perfectly clear what your intentions are. We can’t see inflections.

Read post 3. My response to post 3 is post 5. Someone else responded to my post 5 and said something that had NOTHING to do with my response. That was post 8. Then you come along and totally miss what was being discussed, much the same as the other poster. Try following a conversation back to the beginning. It might give you CONTEXT.

According to the page counter, that old video has had 9,387,417 hits.

In the midst of all the crap about this mosque, more folks should watch it.

I defy anyone with a heart for this Country to watch that video, remember that day, and in their wildest nightmares, imagine a mosque anywhere near that site.

I wouldn’t have an issue if a church, synagogue, temple or anything but a mosque was built there.

That is because the people who might want to build and/or attend churches, synagogues, temples or anything other than a mosque wouldn’t be adherents to the religion that this was done in the name of.

And the people who might be advocating the construction of churches, synagogues, temples or anything other than a mosque at the site wouldn’t answer questions about Hamas and terrorism in general in the same fashion as Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf who told WABC radio when asked about Hamas and terrorism, “Look, I’m not a politician. The issue of terrorism is a very complex question...”

Yeah. It is really a complex issue in the context of 9/11, especially for the Left in this country and people like “Reverend” Wright, who Obama thought the world of until he got in the way politically and had to be jettisoned.

These people make me sick, building a mosque on that site. If that isn’t an “in your face” maneuver, then nothing is.

WOW. My husband and I went and watched...and LISTENED. I was particularly moved and saddened by the woman trapped in the tower and calling frantically on her phone. Chilling.

I remember that day very vividly; I had dropped my daughter off at the bus stop and went over to my friends house for morning coffee. She got a phone call and her friend told her to turn on the tv, that something was happening in New York. We watched as the tower was burning. I saw a plane hit the tower, I thought it was a replay, but it was actually the SECOND PLANE hitting the tower. I couldn’t believe it.
I knew then life would never be the same. The enemy was within, and it would be hard, if not impossible, to stop them.
I also knew all kinds of policies regarding privacy, security and personal freedoms would be next... and here we are.
I will sign every petition (carefully read first, of course) that opposes this mosque. I have long felt this is a bad idea; after seeing the photos of these people, hearing some of their voices, in the last moments of their lives- I am convinced of it. To build that mosque is a slap in the face to all of those people, AND spitting in the face of our troops.
NO MOSQUE!
NO MOSQUE!
NO MOSQUE!!!!!!!!!!!!
