Tourists and business travellers from Europe will have to fork out 100 kronor ($14) in order to travel to the USA after September 8th in a move which has angered the EU commission.

The fee will be levied on citizens from countries within the so-called visa waiver system, which includes Sweden, and the Swedish EU commissioner Cecilia Malmström has expressed concern that the charge could be a hindrance to trans-Atlantic travel.

Don’t blame us Americans. It’s you Europeans who helped get this bozo elected!

The $14 fee will be negligible compared to the Carbon Offset EU plan that starts up in 2012.

..and he's complaining about a US fee... sheesh...

This is relatively little compared to what it costs them to actually travel here, but it used to be a “free” country. The US is within its rights as a sovereign country to do this, but whether it’s a smart PR move is for the pundits to debate.

I could see popular travel destinations, perhaps, offering a $14 rebate to Swedish visitors if they wished.

Why pay a fee to visit the U.S. when you can pay nothing and just live here worry-free?

Instead of border fences, we should set up walk through tollbooths on the Mexican border.

We already have the rudest, nastiest immigration officers in the entire world - a few dollars cover charge just adds insult to injury. :)

Ever been to Russia?

Or France?

Or Dubai?

I've never really had a problem with US immigration officials.

But those other two countries....hoo boy!

Just the taxes alone on a round trip British Airways flight from the States to London is $353.

I don’t see the issue here - any sovereign nation has the righnt to charge fees. Offended nations should simply return the favour and add on an extra 10% for admin charges.

There are bigger issues to be worried abut in the world than this.

You are quite right. I fly Conti to the US every month. Last month, the fare was $525 of which taxes were $315.

The gangstas take 50% more money than the airline already.
