WOULD YOU BUY A CHEVY "VOLT"? FROM OBAMA? FROM GOVERNMENT MOTORS? UNKNOWN SPECS, INSURANCE, REPAIRS!

Have you driven a Chevy Volt

The headline is a play an early ‘80s Ford car ad campaign. Have you driven a Ford. . .lately? was the tag line and it's instructive when considering Chevrolet's new Volt, the car that'll make GM a "leader" in green vehicle technology and create green blue collar jobs. The answer to Have you driven a Chevy Volt . . .lately? is most likely to be no.

I really love cars, and it pains me to criticize a vehicle, since my premise is all cars are good, some are better than others. Plus I know people at GM who love cars and worked diligently on this car, even if they thought it an answer to a question no one asked. While the Volt looks like smart product planning and business management to the Obama regime - people who don't know or care about cars - unfortunately, it fails on several levels.

Start with a $41,000 list price and with the $7500 Federal tax credit it drops to $33,500. I would even speculate that California, with a $20 billion deficit, could even be willing to spend money it doesn't have by kicking in a state hybrid vehicle credit to shave the price slightly. Regardless, tax credits mean more of what we don't need: government spending.

Gee, you must’ve gotten a hot tip on GM stock. How much does it cost to replace the batteries when the time comes? A properly overhauled engine would cost $4-6k with labor, and could last well over 300k if properly maintained.

Obama may be trying to jump on the band wagon but the vehicle had nothing to do with him.

He's in the party which thinks it, not the consumer, not manufacturers knows best. Democrats created the Volt. He's one of them.

Found the “Caprice”. I own a couple and they are from a time when the name meant something. This thing is some ugly Eurotrash. I guess when the ship is sinking there is no time to design in-house. Screw GM.

For 41k I rather find an old muscle car like a 69 goat. We need more CO2 to prevent global cooling.

I want to trade in my 4 cylinder, ‘96 Dodge Caravan for a new Sto and Go Caravan with 4 cylinders. Unfortunately, they don’t make one. I average 25 + miles per gallon with mostly highway driving.

Maybe it should be named Revolt. If you really want to screw something up, get the government involved. I would not own a volt if they were giving them away.

The new Caprice and the old G8 were both Holdens from OZ.

Holden Statesman and Holden Commodore

After having replaced window regulators in each (4) door of my 2000 LeSabre, and having at least one door control module die, and numerous sensors and other electrical items (controls, switches, etc.), I would not trust GM to engineer any electrical system. I agree - no more GM’s for me.

Sorry, but GM has proven to me, a once customer, that they do not provide reliable electronic parts. They rapidly fall apart, are ill designed, are very expensive to replace, and do not work for long.

Democrats created the Volt. He's one of them.

Do you know of the Engineers at GM who were instrumental in creating the Chevy Volt? If you do (and I doubt you do) then tell me how you know their political affiliation?

I know most of the movers and shakers on the Volt program by reading about them. Bob Lutz doesn't sound much like a Democrat to me with his outspoken opinions on energy and economic policy. But I don't know his political affiliation. I know he's on record as saying man made global warming is a crock of *hit.

How can you say Democrats created the Volt? It sure as heck started during the Bush presidency and Bush is on record as being in favor of the technology.

I had a lot of the same problems with a BMW 325 that I had. My sister had all kinds of electrical problems with her Toyota. So much for all those claims about Toyota Quality.

But Quality has to be measured over thousands of vehicles. Anecdotal stories only go so far.

There’ll probably be some wealthy lib and/or academic types who buy one to drive it in front of their friends or co-workers, then they’ll have an SUV at home for their REAL car, for when nobody’s watching.
