So if you find a candidate who opposes LOST, but supports abortion, amnesty, government ownership of the means of production, doubling of taxes, and acceptance of Sharia Law, you would support that candidate? An unusual single-issue position.

That’s why I don’t dislike her. She’s still learning. Reagan was very wise by the time he was elected President. He was also 69 years old.

I’ve heard it said that Sarah may have been concerned about ALaska’s AKs rights to it’s natural resources not being included in the international negotiations. Maybe that was why she signed.

LOL. Chances are if you reject loss, you reject the rest of that laundry list.

She didn’t sign, she was not a Senator. She urged Stevens to vote for ratification. The Treaty would have applied to all of the US territory.

James Inhofe: Proponents of the ratification of the Law of the Sea Treaty, or LOST, will tell you the treaty will be a great asset to the military by allowing our Navy the freedom of movement to and from any point on and under the ocean, unencumbered by the need to send requests to foreign governments for permission to enter territorial waters or to pass through straights. While LOST does maintain that this is true, it is subject to several caveats. Under the terms of the treaty, our naval warships must pass by the coast and not engage in any type of exercise, ground all aircraft, and negate the use of any defensive devices. The issue of passage not only applies to ships but also to aircraft both commercial and military. LOST regulates the activities of aircraft over territorial waters and over straights. This is particularly disturbing because a treaty that is intended to govern the sea has now reached out to control airspace over the seas.

>That’s why I don’t dislike her.

Sometimes you could have fooled me-like when you called her “stupid”.

>She’s still learning.

Yes. She’s only human, just like everyone else. Still, if she does want to be Pres, I hope she doesn’t take too long.

BTW, if someone else runs and becomes Pres. and makes Sarah Secretary of Energy...would you mind?

Not at all, as long as LOST wasn’t part of that agenda.

GQuagmire said that in her letter she may have wanted to try to protect US rights to potential rights, so maybe that’s why she wanted Stevens to vote to ratify. Of course she may have made a mistake.

Jeff Sessions: “Under the treaty, the United States could not board a foreign vessel even if it is suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction. Our warships couldn’t board “unless there is reasonable ground for suspecting that the ship is engaged in piracy … the slave trade … unauthorized broadcasting” or “being without nationality.”

She supported LOST as governor because she felt it would facilitate Alaska's right to drilling in the Chuksi Sea, the largest undeveloped oil & gas reserves on the globe and an area that is being targeted for development by the Russians.

Since leaving office, she has said nothing on the issue as far as I can tell.

It doesn't make any difference whether or not Palin supports LOST. It doesn't make any difference whether or not the US ratifies the treaty.

Enough nations have ratified the treaty and it is, in fact, the law of the sea.

As for Palin and Alaska, it is thought that the northern Alaskan shelf extend 600 miles out, well beyond the 200 that Reagan claimed.

I found the reason she supports it.

President George W. Bush supported ratification. The American Petroleum Institute did too. So have environmental organizations and the official U.S. commission on ocean policy. The Pentagon has said ratifying the treaty will be helpful to national security.
