Is it time for Gibbs to move on?
Washington Post ^ | 8/11/10 | Scott Wilson

The truth hurts.

This may be something for the White House to consider as midterm fatigue sets in and personnel starts to churn. Are White House press secretary Robert Gibbs' recent bouts of truth-telling a sign he should move on?

For months, speculation has abounded that Gibbs will eventually move from his current post to become a less-visible senior adviser to President Obama.

He already essentially plays that role, sitting in on virtually every major meeting regardless of subject matter and receiving rare bureaucratic carte blanche within a disciplined West Wing to jump from policy lane to lane. After seven years with Obama, Gibbs is also one of the president's longest-serving advisers.

The sad and sordid tale of the two Bobs (Beltway Bob and Baghdad Bob) separated at birth, but each doomed to hold positions spinning the lies of evil despots.

Maybe he should get the Bee Gees back together and do a tour of the Indian casinos.

Gibbs is the most sane guy in the Obama administration.

Even with so many members of the self-proclaimed political elite on the left available, it will be difficult to find anyone who can tell so many lies, distortions, and alibis with such a straight face.

I would suggest posting the job on ‘journolist’.

There is nothing we could add that would be as profound as your post. Nicely done.

Well, I can see where this latest media meme is going - "It's not Barack Obama's fault his popularity is in the toilet - it's Robert's Gibbs' fault."

Gibbs may very well be the worst press secretary, ever. But Obama's problems are substantive, not cosmetic - Gibbs is the cosmologist of the Administration. Blaming him is ridiculous.

I don’t think he’s the brightest bulb in town, but he’s right about the professional left not being happy even if they had Kucinich.

Did he say MACACA? That, to the WAPO, is the only reason someone in politics is ineligible to serve. So to answer the WAPO’s question, no, not until he says MACACA. My guess is the WH will feed a bunch of their monkeys to the press after November to spin the truth of what the elections mean. This will probably include the gibbtard.

Move on?

Oh no. We’re just starting to know him.

Keep Gibbs around for the rest of Obummer’s term.

You might be on to something. Gibbs knows he’s lying and has a hard time faking it.

All the other members of the team Obama (except Joe Biden) really believe the surreal fictions they espouse.

I'm not tryin' to be your highness
'Cause that minus is too low to see, yeah

I think if he does move along, I think the press should have daily briefings from his excellency, without the teleprompter, so they can get a good look and feel for what they gave us.

A great comment posted on the source site:

Who really cares? Is this position really necessary? The White House press corps, no matter which president is holding office, is a bunch of poodles that, on most days, try to gin up stories where there aren't.

The WHPC sits around in their little mini-offices and desks, takes a briefing, makes phone calls, and generates 500-word stories and 5-minute news segments that no better capture the world in which we live than moths' wings can beat out a fire.

Why is there such a thing as the White House press corp?

If I was (a conservative) President, or the press secretary, I’d leap over the vermin assigned to the White House and meet weekly with the press in every Podunk town of America.

I’d invite them to the WH for briefings and interviews.

Every time I traveled, I’d meet with the local press (one-on-one or in a group) in whatever small city I visited.

Why on earth does a conservative President even give Sam Donaldson or Helen Thomas or Wolf Blitzer the time of day?

Ideally Obama would want to can Gibbs after election day to show the voters he has heard them and made a change but what Gibbs said was really very offensive to Libs so Obama will need to boot Gibbs in about a month so it don’t look so bad otherwise Obama risks angry Libs not voting at all.

(I know that is one sentence I am watching soccer.)
