WEST POINT Cadet Katie Miller said she couldn't listen to her comrades toss around the word "fag" anymore, and making up stories about fictional boyfriends was driving her crazy.
So Miller, a lesbian who ranks No. 9 in her class of future Army leaders, stepped out the closet last weekend and quit West Point.
"I thought I would have the strength to re-closet myself," said Miller, who was openly gay to her family and friends in high school. "I completely underestimated the personal toll it would have on me.

So she got licked, huh?
Well said.
I’ve completely turned around and now no longer tolerate those who try to make everyone else uncomfortable in order to avoid their own discomfort.
Would much rather have her crack now, instead in the field when the bullets are flying and lives are depending upon her. If she can’t handle hearing a word, I don’t think she’s capable of dealing with the stress an officer had to deal with everyday.
Her personal toll that she will sue others over.
Ya, but she's not be up to Timex specs...
Ya, but she's not be up to Timex specs...
Hers or theirs?............
Exactly. Unfit to command.
How would she deal with the fog of war if she can’t handle the term fag?
It’s too bad really. 9th in her class is an accomplishment. But she doesn’t want to give up her lifestyle even though it’s an illness.
As Cartman says, you should never use the word fag. It’s insensitive to buttpirates.
Well, if THIS is too much to take, wait ‘til “openly gay” servicemembers find themselves in the hands of the Taliban.
How did she make the cut in the first place? Doesn’t sound like military grade steel in them bones.
I hadn’t even thought of that. Excellent point!
Har - "It feels like a bag of sand when you're touching it"
lol. She cracked under the fag of war.
gays, want the majority to accept aberrant behavior so THEY are more comfortable. Not gonna happen.
Exactly. It is not normal behavior - nor is sex with animals. It is their business what they do within the confines of their homes, etc. but don’t think the public has to accept this behavior in our society.
If she couldn’t withstand harsh words, one has to wonder how she would have held up under gunfire or, God forbid, capture by the enemy.
Excellent!
Obviously not officer material. If being homosexual is too much for this girl, fighting a war would be out of the question.
Oh well...she’ll get her 15 minutes of fame in the lesbian-friendly media.
DOH! You beat me to it.
That’s tasteless....
She has hers. The problem is that she wants another woman's.
Great. /s
Who cares about a quitter? What about the other West Point cadets who are performing up to standards and not quitting?
Outside of the lesbo issue, why do we waste these billets on girls to begin with? They can never perform the duties of a real soldier. They just pretend for a year or so and then command a desk.
Wouldn’t know, never tried it.You?
It's good she left, then. People shouldn't have to change simply because she steps into a room.
If she can't stand the heat, she should get out of the crotch...er...I mean ...kitchen.
It’s actually a cruelty to “celebrate” this aberrant lifestyle. It’s destructive and puts you permanently at odds with God’s intention for your life.
Much better to, in all love and humility, let them know that it’s not something that is acceptible in our society.
Get over it, cry baby. Sheesh. What a FAG.
I hope they bill her 100 large for not fulfilling her commitment
According to the story, she lied about her orientation (Re-closet) and she lied about boy friends to cover-up her lie about orientation. According to the former cadet she appears to have violated the honor code of West Point.
What is wrong with this picture. Well to me the fact she could rank 9th at West Point is a worry.
She should go back to namby pamby land, the jack wagon
(barf!)

Who I Am: A Cadet Leaves West Point
Katherine A. Miller is leaving West Point to attend Yale University because of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, a discriminatory policy affecting LGBT people. “I can’t be closeted anymore. I need to be open with myself and open with others about who I am.”
Under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell LGBT military service members have to hide their true identities in order to remain in the military.
Since 1994, over 13,500 service members have been discharged under DADT due to their sexual orientation. We can no longer afford to lose some of our most talented soldiers discriminatory policy. It hurts military readiness... it hurts unit cohesion... and, it is antithetical to American values.
A soldier’s sexual orientation should never outweigh his or her record and performance. Congress must now act swiftly to repeal this shameful policy.
The segment of photos labeled LGBT Veterans was provided by Joann Santangelo. You can find her work and support her efforts to photograph LGBT veterans at www.joannsantangelo.com.
The final straw came in an ethics class where cadets were discussing “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Miller said her peers said they couldn’t stomach the idea of two “fags” kissing. And? That is a disgusting idea for straight people! Nothing you can do about that.
And seriously, if you cannot even live with other people disagreeing with you, battlefields are not for you.
Invariably, this is a good thing, cause if you could not handle what was happening at West Point, she definately could not handle combat... =.=
I like the comment about the failure of government social policy.
Failure of government social policy is what got her there in the first place.
There was a time when prospective cadets were put through the wringer mentally, physically and socially before they were appointed.
But that was a different time and place when our leaders respected the military.
Or at least kept quiet about their views against the military.
For ice cream cones? ;-)
I'll do you one better: I'd much rather she didn't try to pull this hoax off in the first place, freeing up the spot for someone who actually COULD serve her country in an upstanding manner and not wasting our taxpayer funds on her incomplete education.
That must be for removing paint. /s
Sorry, but good riddance. I don’t belong there anymore than she does. Both of us would cause a distraction from the troops’ main mission; she, because of deviant sexuality, and I, because of my physical unfitness for duty. Not everybody has the right to succeed in the military.
She will be contacted by similarly oriented lawyers for a consultation on the lawsuit that will be filed against the military for “harassment.” Since she is a member of a protected privileged minority “oppressed” group, she is guaranteed a good income for the rest of her life.
The only problem with talking about homosexuals is that you have to talk about homosexuality.
My dogs between toe cleaner. Works like a charm.
