Obama begins move to the middle
Politico ^ | 8/12/10 | KEITH KOFFLER

Posted on 08/12/2010 6:15:43 PM PDT by Nachum

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, known for his smoothness and precision, seems to have erred egregiously twice in just weeks.

First, he speculated on TV that Democrats might lose the House, an inexcusable blunder because it is his job to omit the truth — not lie, just omit the truth — when the truth hurts. Then, there he was in print this week, deriding “professional liberals” who label President Barack Obama too moderate, saying they need “to be drug tested.”

Gibbs should have expected this would enrage liberals. Maybe that’s just what he planned.

Facing reporters Wednesday, Gibbs neither apologized nor backtracked. Instead, he doubled down. He was angry at the liberal TV pundits who bash the president, Gibbs said, standing by his words. Then he said he wasn’t the only one at the White House that felt this.

If Gibbs is purposely picking fights with the left, it’s not too surprising. In fact it’s consistent with the White House effort to position Obama closer to the center — where he traditionally needs to be for a reelection victory in 2012.

What a joke. Obama is no clinton.

There is nothing in 0bama's history that would ever suggest he has any propensity at all toward moving toward the political middle. Clinton at least could fake it. Moderation isn't in 0bama's DNA.

Obama isn’t moving to the middle...he’s just finding out how truly retarded his base is.

Serves him right.

Gibbs had better quit slipping up and telling the truth, or he’s gonna find himself under a bus.

LOL. Yeah, Obama, you “move to the middle”.

Like Rush said the past two days—we’re getting “Trotskyite Communism” instead of the “Stalinesque Communism”...just for the election.

Hussein, you’re not fooling us—people realize YOU hate America, and we’re gonna take it out on the pissants in your party first. Your turn comes next election cycle.

Nope, he doesn't. Clinton had to operate in a southern state for all those years. He can speak the language of moderation pretty comfortably and convincingly. Obama can't. He has no idea how to communicate with "typical white people".

"Politco begins dropping LSD."

They've always been bad, but I've noticed they've been especially bad this week. Just look at their most recent headlines...

Will its offbeat candidates hurt GOP?
The press doesn't get Gibbs
Rubio hedges on Fla. immigration bill
Quayle's bump on road to Congress
GOP flirting with disaster on Latinos

It goes on and on.

Idiots. They need to turn in their brains.

Simply doing a head fake to the center won't fool anyone on the left or right. Obama's got to make actual moves toward the center for the perception to stick. In just a year and a half, he's proven beyond a shadow of doubt that he is as far left as they come. No one is going to fall for a bunch of centrist-sounding blather or grandstanding now.

http://blog.businesswire.com/2010/07/06/looking-to-target-political-media-tips-from-four-political-journalists/

Keith Koffler is a veteran White House reporter who writes WhiteHouseDossier.com, an independent blog focusing on President Obama and his administration. In addition to his experience covering the White House, he has also reported on Congress and Washington’s lobbyists at CongressDaily, the National Journal magazine and Roll Call.

When it comes to writing a release, don’t overlook the headline. “The headline is important because it grabs your attention,” Keith said. “Pump up your headline. Make it new, unique or clever.” In general, don’t be afraid to have a sense of humor. Avoid using uniform templates and write a release that is enjoyable to read.

First, he speculated on TV that Democrats might lose the House, an inexcusable blunder because it is his job to omit the truth — not lie, just omit the truth — when the truth hurts.

I'd like to amend that. The job of Robert Gibbs is to omit little pieces of the truth ... gently and gradually chipping away the most painful bits, until what's left of the truth doesn't hurt any more.

Politico very cleverly played centrist early on, planning all along to come to SOBama’s aid when the election drew near and things heated up. Expect them to become increasingly blatant in their hard leftism between now and November.

'Obama begins move to the middle'

I had to dig deep into the files for this one.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Who cares what a Whitehouse spokesman says about members of their own party? That has nothing to do with whether the President is left, right, or center.

Am I the only one who thinks where a person is on the political spectrum is their policy statements and actions and not criticisms on one person or another?

I was rather startled that people were surprised by politician's behavior after an election, when it usually followed their policy statements and always followed their policy behavior.

For example, I knew President Carter was naive about foreign policy before he was elected—but many people were startled by his naivete.

I knew President H.W. Bush was left of Reagan and not a staunch conservative—I wasn't surprised he raised taxes, but I was surprised he broke his word.

I knew President Bush had promised to protect the US steel industry, so I was not surprised he supported some trade restrictions.

I knew President Obama was very left in his economic beliefs so I haven't been surprised by his economic failures—they're about as big as I expected.

“Bambi just doesn’t have the touch.”

He did a pretty good job of lying his way thru the election. He managed to convince most of America he was a moderate. That said, it will be harder this time around. Bubba had a pretty good economy.

The NYT and the usual claque of old media will do their best to make it happen.

He did a pretty good job of lying his way thru the election.

The election was different. That was a masterful con-job to be sure, but what he faces now is something else entirely. He is no longer running against "Bush" or "Republicans". Rather, he is trying to explain what he's done and where he's going. Much harder. Bubba, in November 1994, said after getting his ass kicked, "I hear you." Then, in January 1995, he said "The era of big government is over." It was all lies, of course, but he said it and some folks believed it.

Bambi simply doesn't have it in him to acknowledge the sovereignty of the people or to pretend to change course. He will instead promise to better explain the rejected agenda that he will insist on continuing.

This will fail.
