EDITORIAL: Silencing the citizen soldier--Justice foot-dragging disenfranchises the military
The Washington Times ^ | August 12, 2010 | Editorial

Military voting rights still aren't protected. That's the message from former Justice Department official M. Eric Eversole, who argues in a column at the front of this section that his former employer is undermining the new law requiring states to mail ballots to military voters at least 45 days before the November elections. If anything, the situation might be even worse than Mr. Eversole suggests.

The Obama administration refuses to release the waiver requests filed by a dozen states and territories claiming an inability to meet the legal deadline. Mr. Eversole and 17 members of Congress led by Rep. Robert E. Latta, Ohio Republican, sought this information through formal requests.

One of the states requesting a waiver, Colorado, held its primary three days ago - a whopping 84 days ahead of the November election. It defies belief that the Centennial State would claim that it doesn't have enough time to mail ballots to military voters by the law's deadline of Sept. 18. Colorado Secretary of State Bernie Buescher, a Democrat, insists that he is unable to comply, and his spokesman Rich Coolidge admitted that some military votes won't get counted as a result...

There's no excuse to deny any of our military their voting right.

It’s part of the larger royalist coup disenfranchising the average American voter.

If this is the case, then the military should be empowered to give “power of attorney to vote in my absence” papers to an NOK of choice. Only Overseas active duty soldiers and legal age family members should all have this right.

If I was in the military, and I was from CO, and I didn’t get a ballot, I would walk off the job, let the military arrest me, and I’d make the biggest stink and alert every media outlet in this country, have family, friends and interested people rain this story down on Rush, Hannity and every other talk show host that could be reached until the entire country knew about this. Every civil rights attorney, every civil rights organization would be bombarded. And all the other states trying to get waivers would be shamed as well.

That’s an excellent suggestion, xzins. It would simplify what’s going on now and assure any member of our military his or her vote would be counted.

Oh....and I printed labels that I am attaching to EVERY piece of mail that leaves my house:

“Military Vote being DENIED by these States—

Hawaii, New York, Delaware, Virgin Islands, Alaska,
Washington, DC, Maryland, Washington, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Colorado.

Every vote counts, right? These Secretaries of State DENY our MILITARY votes.

After all....shouldn’t everyone who handles the mail be privy to this info?

...corruption. Clerks’ offices have also refused to properly register known veterans. Complaints about the matter have been answered with jeers from Republicans, Democrats, and even some Freepers on this board.

So don’t buy anything that you don’t really need. Become more self-sufficient. As a hobby for now, learn to manufacture something that people need. Be nonpolitical.
