Editors Note: The following is the new epilogue from Max Blumenthals book, Republican Gomorrah, now out in paperback (Basic/Nation Books, 2009).
I am not sure when I first detected the noxious fumes that would envelop the conservative movement in the Obama era. It might have been early on, in April 2009, when I visited a series of gun shows in rural California and Nevada. Perusing tables piled high with high-caliber semi-automatic weapons and chatting with anyone in my vicinity, I heard urgent warnings of mass roundups, concentration camps, and a socialist government in Washington. These people that are purchasing these guns are people that are worried about whats going on in this country, a gun dealer told me outside a show in Reno. Good luck Obama, a young gun enthusiast remarked to me. We outnumber him 100 to 1. At this time, the Tea Party movement had not even registered on the national medias radar.
In September 2009, I led a panel discussion about this book inside an auditorium filled with nearly 100 students and faculty at the University of California-Riverside. Beside me sat Jonathan Walton, an African-American professor of religious studies and prolific writer, and Mark Takano, an erudite, openly gay former Democratic congressional candidate and local community college trustee.
In the middle of our discussion, a dozen College Republicans stormed the front of the stage with signs denouncing me as a left-wing hack while a hysterical young man leaped from the crowd, blowing kisses mockingly at Takano while heckling Walton as a racist. Afterward, university police officers insisted on escorting me to my ride after the right-wing heckler attempted to follow me as he shouted threats.

Sorry, the only fascists are on the LEFT.
They are the collectivists, the central planners, the rule by the few over the many, they are the fascists.
Sounds like they got it right.
Frankly, I think he's a Fascist Pig in drag.
The left is totally discombobulated when their own tactics are used against them.
He heard this walking around any Democrat gathering in the Bush years.
fascism is a brand of socialism
1. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
2. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) the philosophy, principles, or methods of fascism.
3. ( initial capital letter ) a fascist movement, esp. the one established by Mussolini in Italy 192243.
How about what happened to the founder of the Minutemen when he tried to give a speech when inited to do so at Colombia. They literally stormed the stage and ran him out of the building.
Is this the soaps actor?
The idiots who have been using the word "fascist" for decades, every other sentence, haven't the slightest clue what it means.
Looks like you don't either.
Google Fascism for Dummies...
I imagine that Mr. Blumenthal routinely denounces as fascists the left wing groups that have been completely shutting down speakers and cnferences (often by low level violence, like when they threw pig blood at Contra leader Adolfo Callero in 1985 at Northwestern.)
Funny, how the writer quotes Sartre, who was the head of the French Maoist party.
Apparently this guy:
Michael Leon is a writer living in Madison, Wisconsin. His writing has appeared nationally in The Progressive, The Advocate, In These Times and CounterPunch, and locally in Madison in the Isthmus, the Capital Times and Corporate Report Wisconsin. Leon works as a staff writer, editor and veterans’ advocate at Veterans Today, and as a writer/editor and PR consultant based out of Madison.
How about when the Code Pinko member infiltrated the GOP convention and interrupted John McCain’s acceptance speech?
How about when the DNC brownshirts were outside the 2008 GOP convention with firebombs, plotting to set fire to police cars (with police in them) and kidnap delegates and the PRO-bama media kept quiet about the conspiracy, prosecution, and conviction of the Rats?
Writer for the Advocate. Another member of the Lavender Mafia? Gaystapo?
Max Blumenthal is projecting again.
The word “facism” was coined by Mussolini who was a nationalist socialist like Hitler. It comes from the Latin word “fasces” the bundle of rods that was the Roman symbol of authority. These dumb ass leftists are ignorami.
Oh please. The LECTURE halls at Riverside are designed to hold over 200+ students. I doubt that an auditorium with 100 people doesn't even come close to being "filled". He could have had this discussion with ten tables pushed together in the Student Union. I'd like to Google this incident and see if it really happened as he says it did.
