U.S. Civil Rights Commission hearing erupts in shouting

Washington (CNN) -- Members of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission shouted at each other Friday over the Justice Department's decision to drop most of the charges in a 2008 incident in which black militants confronted voters at a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, polling place, leading to charges of voter intimidation.

Conservative commission members accused the Justice Department of "stonewalling" the commission's investigation into the dismissal, and called a Justice Department's response to requests for information "breathtaking and insulting." A liberal commission member, in turn, dismissed those complaints as the "last gasps of a conservative majority of this commission."

At the end of the fractious hour-long debate, no minds appeared to be changed. But one liberal member sided with the conservative majority in agreeing to recommend that Congress give the commission more power when investigating Justice Department matters in the future.

In a letter this week to the commission, Perez again said the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division is "firmly committed to the evenhanded application of the law, without regard to the race of the victims or perpetrators." He does not believe Coates "is the appropriate witness to testify regarding current Division policies," he said.

That drew a strong response from commission conservatives.

"They, by virtue of this letter, gave us their back hand," said commissioner Peter Kirsanow. "This is contemptuous of this particular process," he said.

Naturally DOJ won't let Christopher Coates tesitfy before the USCCR, he'd make Holder and Perez out to be the liars they are.

These ‘post-racial relations’ the media were talking about after the Messiah’s election have stepped back over a hundred years. Only this time, the oppressors are black.

I wonder if this turd bird even realizes that he admitted on record it is not about justice at all, it is about raw political power.

What they've sown, they shall reap.

In most cases I’d agree but the conservatives hold a 6 to 2 advantage on the panel.

The panel is supposed to be balanced but under the Bush Admin two of the Repubs changed to Independents when two Dems left and Bush appointed two more Repubs. It was technically legal. :)

Seems to me that the DOJ and the civil rights division have set a precedent here and if White people happen to be wearing Pillow cases on their heads and carrying nooses at polling places, shouting we don’t like to be ruled by the black man then that would be equal justice under the law.

The question is why would it have to come to this for the idiots on the left to see the result of their actions?

Translation: Don't worry, you won't have to listen them after the gas chamber door shuts.

Yep, that’s the reason this fiasco hasn’t gone away.

Voter intimidation was so blatant and there was video of these morons in front of the polling place clearly in violation of the voter rights act.

Then along comes Holder and his appointed thugs and basically dismiss it after which one his appointees tells a room full of DOJ lawyers they won’t enforce intimidation cases if those intimidated aren’t minorities.

Holder and his thugs are not fooling anyone.

Part of me is shocked, part of me isn’t.

Where are these glorious Republican candidates who we’re supposed to be supporting in ‘12?

Oh yeah, hiding so as not to be seen defending White people.
