BEIJING: A Chinese General on Friday termed as "flagrant provocation" US plans to send a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to the Yellow Sea and said the country would retaliate if "offended".
"A country needs respect, so does a military. We will retaliate if we are offended," Major General Luo Yuan, deputy secretary-general of the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) Academy of Military Sciences, wrote in an editorial in the PLA Daily.
The US is "pushing its security boundary to the doorstep of others the Yellow Sea, South China Sea and so on," Luo said.
China had in the recent weeks voice its firm opposition to activities of foreign military vessels or planes in the Yellow Sea and China's coastal waters, saying they undermine it security interests. Despite China's warning, the US insists on sending the carrier USS George Washington', he said
The General was reacting to remarks by Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, that the carrier will always go into international waters.
China is developing a new missile called Dong Feng 21D, that could penetrate the defenses of even the most advanced aircraft carrier at a distance of more than 1,500 km.
Well then, the entire US Navy is now on ‘double secret probation’.
Hey China.... don’t do anything now please, our president is on extended vacation.
Commence the trade war.
It’s only going to get worse, the longer we wait.
And the entire time, China is becoming more dangerous.
Time to shut down imports from China. Just turn the ships away.
Bowin’ Barry has convinced all of the world’s fruitcakes that Americans are just a bunch of wussies!
The only thing that concerns me about this threat is the fact that we have an America Hating Marxist asshat in command of our military.
That in and of itself is very concerning.
WRT China, what president has done anything to make them believe otherwise.
We for some insane reason long ago came to the (wrong) conclusion that America should maintain a posture of weakness and submissiveness in every way about China.
Which is the exact wrong thing for us to do. As China becomes stronger, China will become more aggressive.
The more money and technology we send to China, the more aggressive and dangerous the country will become.
We are creating our own worst possible enemy, by our bone-headed and wrong policy, of not standing up for our interests vis-a-vis China.
It didn’t have to be this way. But now that it is, we have got to change the way we do business with China.
Or frankly, we’re going to be destroyed as a nation and a culture, within one generation.
Wake up people.
The question is who in Washington is going to put on the knee pads and grovel and apologize.
Is everyone perpetually offended these days?
I’d call their bluff, but knowing the AnnointedIdiot, he will back down...the idiotPOTUS enjoys us looking as weak as a paper tiger. =.=
I guess the biggest chink in our foreign affairs armor is our ignorance of 1) what offends the Middle Kingdom, and 2) how easy it is to do.
Hey General, two thoughts. First, look up “international waters.” Second, you sound insecure, only the weak lash out when they don’t have to.
So who on “our side” has taken any sort of stand for American strength and industry?
Who on “our side” has been in any way more intelligent about keeping American strength?
While the commies in the Democrat party are disarming us, the “Free Trade” dumb*sses in our own party are tearing down American industry as fast as they can, and sending them to China.
Both sides are doing exactly the wrong things.
We’re in a glass house, and have no business criticising leftists as long as we have no better ideas than surrender.
Because that’s what we’re doing.
Arguably, even more efficiently than the left.
Chinese get offended to negotiate.
We are so clueless.
Someone needs to wake Americans up. Or we’re so screwed.
It would be nice, if it were CONSERVATIVES who were the ones to wake up.
Though. Getting sort of discouraged. Frankly.
Most seem brainwashed by the mantra of “free trade, free trade, free trade...”
Which they’ll be chanting right up until the time we’re invaded by a superior, better-funded, larger and far more motivated attack force - paid for and equipped entirely by.
I can remember when the U.S. was a world power.
So what will Major General Luo Yuan do? March a million men to the Yellow Sea and have them shake their fists at our ships?
Over-confidence becomes less appropriate, every day.
Our trade policies are guaranteeing, China will indeed have the capability to carry through with such threats.
Sooner perhaps, than any FReeper dares, to even contemplate.
Wake up people.
Chinese 'Carrier-Killer' Missile Could Reshape Sea Combat
"The emerging Chinese anti-ship missile capability, and in particular the DF 21D, represents the first post-Cold War capability that is both potentially capable of stopping our naval power projection -- and deliberately designed for that purpose," said Patrick Cronin, senior director of the Asia-Pacific Security Program at the nonpartisan, Washington-based Center for a New American Security."
It’s like being alive in 1930, and seeing clearly what was about to unfold.
Trying to warn people.
That their world was about to collapse.
It’s like everyone is hypnotized. Even smart people are asleep, and frankly DETERMINED not to wake up.
Wake up people.
Let us consider freedom of the seas, the right of innocent passage, and so on. Our ChiCom general apparently is not up on his international law when applied to the sea.
So once we’ve finished sending all our manufacturing and technology to China.
After we’re broke, and unable to match China’s ever-growing military.
Who says there will be “international law”?
What would happen if they sunk one of our carriers? In one move, China would alter the balance of global power.
That’s part of it.
What people are not grasping, is that China is already altering the balance of world power.
And we are doing absolutely nothing to stop, or even slow that process.
We are SLEEPING.
AND WE WILL RETALIATE WITH A STRONGLY WORDED LETTER!
“We are SLEEPING.”
Just like Europe did in the mid thirties. You know how that ended.
I despise the chicoms... and their agents post here on FR.
He does grovel well.
What thin-skinned, petulant whiners the ChiComs are. Everything they have they stole from their betters.
“The emerging Chinese anti-ship missile capability, and in particular the DF 21D,”
Ok. Then fire a damn torpedo.
Import ban. Magnificent.
0bama is looking for a plausible excuse to have military action against an unpopular foe.
That will help him and the Democrats around election time.
Our national de-industrialization folly, is rapidly reaching the point we have two choices.
A knock-down, no apologies and no quarter, America-first trade war to stop the collapse.
Or, the post above yours.
Pick a lane.
Boy, if an aircraft carrier offends him, I'm betting that General really doesn't like those Ohio-class subs that could sail up and flatten him and half his country before he even knew there were there.
I'm just sayin', y'know?
It's not as simple as that. I agree with you that trade with China has been one sided and has damaged the U.S. and enriched China. However, by far the biggest problem with China has been the technology transfers in which the U.S. government gives away our technological advances and gets nothing in return.
The missile technology that was transferred to China was simply treason.
Free trade with China has been pushed by the Democrats, more than conservatives. Sen Feingold’s husband as well as other Democrats have been big operatives in China. And don't forget all the money the Clintons got from Johnny Chung, Charley Trie, the Riadis etc.
American manufacturing became uncompetitive largely due to unions and the regulatory climate.
But despite all this the U.S. is still by far the strongest country in the world both militarily and economically. The fact that the current administration lets other countries insult and threaten the U.S. is an enormous failure of the current administration.
Preempt China, today!
Will they not even give our government a chance to apologize first?
Global thermal nuclear war. If China dares to fire a ballistic missile at one of our carriers which is sovereign American soil just like an embassy or military base they will have sealed their fate. This is nothing short of an act of Global strategic warfare and 600 million chicoms in the cities would be vaporized as our Trident D5 rain down on them, followed by the MM3 and mopped up with Bones,Buffs and Beaks at least with W or a real CIC the Marxist usurper would prob just go on more vacation.
Gee another “religion” of peace and love.
Get with the program, Obie, Communists hate us and will try to conqueror or destroy us. So too will Islamic Jihadists.
What about “conqueror” don’t you understand?
