DETROIT After a dismal period of huge losses and deep cuts that culminated in the Obama administrations bailout of General Motors and Chrysler, the gloom over the American auto industry is starting to lift.

Hey NY Times! Don’t smoke crack!
Happy Days Are Here Again.
Looks like Vlasic went out and got himself pickled.
I'm SURE that Detroit is booming. Must be all the advertising they do for "Michigan being business friendly". hahahahaha
“I’m SURE that Detroit is booming.”
With their muzzie population that takes on a whole other meaning.
Geez. Somebody drank the Kool-Aid - no mention in the article of the tens of billions of taxpayer dollars sunk into GM and Chrysler (plus GMAC). I bet any industry wouldn’t be feeling quite as gloomy once it got an unlimited supply of slop at the federal trough. NYT is cranking up the propaganda machine heading into the fall elections - looks like everyone has gotten the message to tell the country that the economy is great. Pay no attention to those gloomy numbers!
After a hundred billion dollars in federal subsidies, there ought to be some positive impact on Detroit.
No less of a toilet.
Right now Detroit is doing well because they are selling some great cars. The best cars they’ve ever made. However these cars were all designed pre-Obama. Starting with the Volt, which was designed pre-Obama but which he has adopted and made his own, Detroit will try to trick us into buying substandard “green” cars. The only hope is Ford, but I think Obama will use the Unions to try to crush them when their next contract comes up. The seeds of the destruction of the US auto industry have already been sown.
Exactly
Paging the People’s Cube!
...the auto industry may be better off but the city is still crippled by decades of black Democrat governance.
It absolutely sounds like a Renaissance to me.
Maybe they’ll build a Renaissance Center to attract the green businesses with manufacturing facilities built on the barren residential properties swept clean by the blight.
I can foresee great happenings now that the dark age is over
Imagine what they would write if Bush were still in office. 14% official unembloyment is a boom? Must be the anticipation of the Dolt coming off the lines.
Pray for America
I read in Automotive News that 25% of all GM vehicles and 33% of all Chrysler vehicles sold went into daily fleet rentals in 2010 (meaning they just about gave them away).
I live in the Detroit area and things are hardly booming here.
This is as truthful as pigs flying and Muzzies endorsing pork wing as a main dish.
WOW. Their propaganda sometimes just leaps off the page at you.
If the author even bothered to go to Detroit for this article, he must have missed the 90% of Detroit that looks like Berlin in May 1945.
Did they mention how GM paid back it's DEBT with MORE BAILOUT MONEY? I couldn't believe the head of GM had the brass ones to infer that REVENUE was the pay back mechanism. It's all lies. The NYT is a shill, as always for Obama with the usual extreme LIES.
Oh crap .... I should have bought up some of those houses they were selling for one dollar when I had the chance. They're probably going to be asking five dollars or more now that the gloom is gone.
CC
This is great news. The properties with houses on them I used to get for 20 bucks are now 22.50. Boom times are here again.
Detroit is back.
Just like their Iraq war coverage, sit on the hotel rooftops with a drink in their hands........
I kinda doubt it.
“Hey New York Times!Don’t smoke crack!”
Too late!!!
Press release when Bill Vlasic joined the NY Times:
I’m pleased to announce that Bill Vlasic will be the Times’ new Detroit bureau chief, taking over from Micki Maynard, who will be moving on to a new assignment in Washington next year.
Micki is hard to replace, with her knack for seeing around corners, and for writing smart and bright enterprise that tends to walk onto Page One. But we’re confident Bill can continue the Times’ tradition of first-rate coverage out of the nation’s automotive capital.
With more than a dozen years’ experience covering the industry, most recently for the Detroit News, Bill knows the business inside-out. Detroit is a company story, a consumer story, a labor story, an environmental story and a political story, and Bill has demonstrated an ability to approach the beat from all these angles.
He won a Loeb Award in 2005 for a series on safety problems with car roofs, and was a Loeb finalist in three other years. And he wrote a gripping series on Heinz Prechter’s battle with manic depression, and how it drove the prominent auto executive to take his own life.
His book, “Taken for a Ride,” about Daimler Benz’s buyout of Chrysler, which he wrote with Brad Stertz, was lauded by our own Keith Bradsher in the Times’ Book Review. He likened it to “Barbarians at the Gate...a spellbinding tale, juicy gossip and all, of how business is really done among the world’s largest companies.”
Bill is a Detroit native and the father of two sons, ages 24 and 21, and a 16-year-old daughter. Please welcome him when he arrives in New York for orientation in the next few weeks.

My hometown Cleveland, is not as bad, but it won’t take long to follow Detroit. We’ve kept our neighborhoods, for the most part.
If it weren’t for the magnificent Cleveland Clinic, always expanding, taking up whole blocks of the city, we would be in deep shit.
Although Obamacare might take a bite out of that.
Anything from the New York Slimes IMMEDIATELY sends the BS meter to the top of the scale.
This story is simply liberal lies written to give a mental “safe place” to Odumbo supporters who are starting to wake up and smell the communist economic failure.
Detroit and economic boom in the same sentence? I’d be ROFLMAO if the propaganda wasn’t so blatant.
That simple headline displays the vast disconnect that liberals have with reality.
I’m in the defense industry. Every new Request for Quote (RFQ) says right on the coversheet: “The winner or this proposal WILL produce it in Detroit.” This has created a bizarre bit of economics in Detroit. Nobody working for a company based anywhere else wants to relocate to Detroit. So, engineers already working in Detroit are jumping companies for more pay like fish jumping to escape a shark. The local engineer’s pay is out of proportion to the rest of the real world.
If you’re moving there from someplace else, you have to make enough money to send your kids away to school. You’d be insane to let them attend public school. Yes, I know there are nice areas in Sterling Heights and others locations, but the cost of living there must be shooting through the roof and it will only get worse.
Meanwhile, the taxpayer will pay the additional cost of these companies moving to Detroit to help Obama’s co-conspirators in crime; the UAW.

For printing out on stickers & attaching to any MSM publication.
Is that an actual photo?
4 white guys holding signs...”change we can believe in” while the looks on their faces say it all. Disgusting picture. Can you imagine the conversation from the Union heads before that? “Now here are your signs, get out there and stand behind the president”
I wonder how the FedGov purchases factor in? A certain governmentally-funded entity I am quite familiar with was making do with older vehicles until the last couple of months, when they got shiny new Dodges which heretofore were too expensive. I refer to the lot as "Obamobiles."
Yep. Do a google images search for "obama UAW".
We’ll no doubt see Moochelle Antoinette taking a holiday there any day now.
That bunch looks like a barrel of laughs.
Good for one or two points in the polls.
I’ll take your word for it.
Obama promises to turn American into a 3000 mile wide Detroit.
The slogan is:
VOLTS FOR DOLTS
When blacks bow its to detriot. All this propaganda is to show nobama’s 99% vote block, he’s wid em in da fight an is whoopin da crackers n gettin dare stash for yo reparations, “be sure to vote dem you know Mo Fo”..
Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia. Two plus two equals five.
Of course it’s true..housing prices in Detroit have DOUBLED in the last 6 months..from $100 to $200..
Not much diversity showing here.....looks like they went to the local rescue mission to get stand-ins. The real union members were out beating up Tea Partyers and using racist words for the Main Stream Merde cameras.
