Chrysler's Ram truck division is taking direct aim at hunters with a unique feature on its new line of Outdoorsman pickup trucks - a gun closet. Called the The Mopar RamBox Holster, its a rack that can hold two rifles or shotguns inside one of the lockable, watertight compartments located on either side of the pickup bed. A $205 option - on top of the $1895 price of the RamBox feature itself - the rack can be rotated to hold six fishing poles for those who prefer quieter trips into the great outdoors. The Outdoorsman starts at $28,350 and includes standard features like scratch-resistant bumpers, puncture-resistant tires, and a towing package. Buyers can order the trimline on most Ram models, including heavy duty and long wheelbase versions.

..looks good, but I wonder about Chrysler's future as a company...we've already lost our dealership and the next closest one is 25 miles away.

Yeah, would hate to see Chrysler fold. But, sadly, it's my guess that when Chrysler re-branded their truck division by dropping the word “Dodge” and going with just “Ram” a signal was sent that the truck line may be all that will remain eventually.

I need the pickup bed in full size.
The lock box behind the seat or under the crew cab second seat is a better buy.
'Course for us old rednecks, the gunrack in the rear window is more fun.
The look on those stinkin' liberals' faces as you pass them ... it's priceless.

I can just imagine a Jeff Foxworthy’s redneck joke about pick up trucks and gun racks.

Sooo, are you implying that you would store and haul several thousand dollars worth of guns around in this storage bin? Personally, I don’t think so. These things will be big ole flags to punks saying “Free guns, just for the taking”! Take a big screw driver or tire tool, stick it under the latch area and pop the lid open in ooooh, maybe two nano-seconds?

One other thought ... you never know when that shotgun might be needed
to fire while on the move, out the driver's left window, or the passenger's window. (hehehe)

How about a rear bulkhead box made of Lucite, so the new legalities are kept along with the old fashioned visibility of the gun!

I'd point the guns towards the back, rather than towards
my back.
But that's just me...

Maybe Chrysler can offer a gun mount, and get into the export business by offering a ready-made
technical.

Will NEVER own a GM or Dodge again! But I'll bet you'd buy a Jap or German vehicle even though the U.S. taxpayer helped breath life into their automotive industries after WW2..

Well, there is always Jeep ('cept the Compass and its ilk).

Personally, I'd prefer a Hummer with a little more punch.

I saw that. Me too. The truck needs a tailgunner pod.

Nice idea, but until they divest themselves of all Union ownership, I just ain’t interested.
And I say that as someone who likes their truck designs.
I will not buy a Government Made Car or Truck, period!
To: HiTech RedNeck
To hell with the law, as long as I can lock it when I need to,
but grab it while driving, say from the floorboard in front of the rear seat, behind the driver's right arm rest.

Different set of circumstances, and you know it.
To: STONEWALLS
Nothing dumber than advertising that you have a gun locked in there.
They’d be better off just advertising it as a built-in utility box and offering gun, pole or tool inserts.
