Obama claims GOP trying to destroy Social Security

(AP:WASHINGTON) President Barack Obama used the anniversary of Social Security to trumpet Democrats' support for the popular program and accuse Republicans of trying to destroy it.
Seventy-five years after President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Social Security into law, Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday: "We have an obligation to keep that promise, to safeguard Social Security for our seniors, people with disabilities and all Americans _ today, tomorrow and forever."
Some Republican leaders in Congress are "pushing to make privatizing Social Security a key part of their legislative agenda if they win a majority in Congress this fall," Obama said.
He contended that such privatization was "an ill-conceived idea that would add trillions of dollars to our budget deficit while tying your benefits to the whims of Wall Street traders and the ups and downs of the stock market."
Most Republicans, in fact, are wary of touching that idea, because Social Security is virtually sacrosanct to voters, particularly seniors.
Nonetheless, Democrats have been able to seize on the issue because of a proposal by Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the top Republican on the House Budget Committee, that would allow younger people to put Social Security money into personal accounts.
Ryan's idea is similar to a proposal pushed unsuccessfully by former President George W. Bush. It's not been endorsed by party leaders and has attracted only a small number of GOP co-sponsors.
With Social Security's finances strained, policymakers talk frequently about the need to address the solvency of the entitlement program. How to do so is less clear, as Obama's comments Saturday underscored.

The recycled lines of the old playbook just keep coming back...
Concur..If that’s all they have left....
“Obama claims GOP trying to destroy Social Security”
Of course he is.
Or which party has had more Congressional majorities since Social Security’s inception?
Gotta fix the blame now for when the house of cards comes crashing down.
The greatest fraud ever forced on free people. Built on the backs of dead Americans.
Speaking of fraud, force, dead Americans...wait’ll you see national healthcare.
Progressives/totalitarians and their machinations BUMP!
SS = PONZI SCHEME!
Social Security is about 30 trillion dollars in the red and the country is already broke and spending 1.5 trillion dollars a year we don’t have. Dems destroyed SS years ago. At this point it is just a pay as you go ponzi entitlement that cannot be maintained but a few more years, if that. It’s already paying out more than it’s taking in.
The pot calling the kettle black.
Personally, I blame the ‘Greatest Generation’ who decided that they'd done their bit and didn't care what happened to their country and their heirs as long as they could get as much as possible for themselves, up to an including trying to drag everything into their graves with them. You cant lay claim to being even a decent generation much less a great one when you dont give a damn about what kind of country youre leaving your children and grandchildren. The fact that Congress for the most part just reflects that same generation explains a lot about why Congress is so corrupt and self-serving.
Regards
ROFLOL Seriously the man who cut hundreds of millions from Medicare has the nerve to try this? OOOHHHHH wouldn’t that make a great GOP commerical...have him saying this with the voice over laughing and saying....
