At midnight on Sunday, August 8th, a temporary lake caused by a recent landslide broke loose above the town of Zhouqu, in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, China. The outflow slid down the valley as a wall of mud, wiping out houses and muli-story buildings, and killing at least 1,144 residents - with over 600 still reported as missing. More than 10,000 soldiers and rescuers arrived soon to comb through the mountains of mud that buried several parts of Zhouqu County.

It is apparent by the photos that residential structures were built in the floodplain of a steep mountain river. Not smart. We have our own experience with poor city planning (New Orleans).

Wow! Those photos are fantastic!

Very sad to see such misery. I hope we never experience anything like that.

I agree it looks more like a flood than a landslide. It looks like they built in a natural drainage.

One of the posters is blaming it on global warming. Idiot.

Prayers for the victims and those who are trying to help them.

Very sad....
If you read some of the comments, some are saying this is caused because of Global Warming by humans... no,, it's not, how do you explain the unusual activity of the sun and the recent sun flares ?
Those pictures show a living hell here on earth.
The bible talks about the end times and how the end times will be the most perilous ever seen by man.

About 60% of the people in those photos are military. Is there a military base there, or was the military the first responders? It would appear that the only way for communist countries to thrive is to have a strong military (read government) presence.

#24 makes you wonder why the military guy in the orange vest and clean boots is just standing there -- making no effort to help -- or, at least, comfort -- the trapped woman.

At least, they appear to have used ropes to try to hold the debris up off of her somewhat...
