Philadelphia Housing Authority chief Carl Greene facing foreclosure (This is frankly...stunning)
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | August 13, 2010 | Jennifer Lin

The mortgage foreclosure crisis has claimed an unlikely victim: Carl R. Greene, executive director of the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA).

Wells Fargo Bank has foreclosed on Greene's $615,035 condominium in the upscale Naval Square development in the city's Schuylkill section.

In a lawsuit filed July 27, Wells Fargo said the amount in dispute was $386,685.22.

Greene, 53, runs the nation's fourth-largest public housing agency and is one of the highest-paid public officials in the city. His salary is $306,370, and last year he got a $44,188 bonus.

Kirk Dorn, a spokesman for Greene, confirmed Thursday that the housing chief was "involved in a dispute with his mortgage company."

"It's unfortunate that the dispute is now public, but he plans to deal with the matter in private," Dorn said.

Dorn added that Greene "knows people will find it hard to understand how he could be involved in a possible foreclosure proceeding on his home, but he would prefer not to say more about it at this time."

Greene bought his three-bedroom, 2,100-square-foot condo in 2007. Wells Fargo is not seeking to evict him.

Whew! Good to know he is running a major city's housing program when he is so responsible himself.

“Wells Fargo is not seeking to evict him.”

More evidence the elites live by different rules than the rest of us.

“Can’t make payments on a $600k mortgage with $300k+ salary?”

It’s worse: sounds like there was only $386K left to pay and his salary last year was $350K. The poor guy, trying to subsist on only $350K with a mortgage payment that likely did not exceed $60K. Maybe Obama should rethink the ability of those “rich” folks above $250K to pay higher taxes!

I suspect the problem isn’t that he can’t afford to pay his mortgage payments; it’s probably that the condo isn’t worth the remaining amount he owes, so he wants out of the mortgage.

More likely that he’s upside down on his home and is trying to short the bank the difference.

He’s entitled you know...

1) He is probably, as others have also guessed, upside-down on his purchase.
This means that the house has depreciated significantly in the housing market drop and is highly unlikely to recover any time soon.

2) For the individual then, the decision is whether to honor your freely entered into contract, or to legally welsh on it.

And what my $0.02 worth is ...

3) As a Democrat, Mr. Greene will skate on this with little further MSM attention. If he were a Republican, of course, the MSM would be camped on his lawn for weeks, asking continuous questions about how he could square his morality with his actions!

FYI: Philadelphia is a lovely city to visit but only to visit! City government is a joke and a crime in progress!

From that article:

..............Greene settled a tab with the Internal Revenue Service in December after the agency slapped him with a lien for $52,480 in unpaid federal taxes dating back to 2002.

.........Greene bought his condo for $615,035 in 2007. According to financial records, Greene took out a $400,000 mortgage....
.......Greene stopped paying his mortgage in April. In June, he was notified that he was past due by $7,550. Then in July, the bank sued Greene, saying he owed $386,685, which is the principal balance plus interest, late charges and other fees............

Breaking all those numbers down, this means that Greene, who makes $25,530 a month before taxes, stopped paying his $2,431 mortgage bill.

Wow, the guy wasn't paying his federal taxes, then he just stopped paying his mortgage payment? What was he doing with all of his money?

LOL, he may have a few more problems than just the mortgage and federal tax issues. Earlier problems for PHA chief emerge

300K salary goes a long way when you don’t pay your income taxes or mortgage. I hope the Housing authority knows how much money is suppposed to be in the agency bank accounts.

But is there any doubt Mr Carl supports obanomics and dropping the “Bush tax cuts for the wealthy”?
