Adopted in 1868, the 14th Amendment defined citizenship making it clear that former slaves and their descendents were American citizens. But part of that amendment, that everyone born in the US becomes a citizen, has become controversial during the immigration debate, with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and others calling for hearings on whether to repeal or revise the language.
A Pew survey out this week notes that illegal immigrants who have children here (who then become insta-citizens) represent a not-insignificant portion of new births. Of the 4.3 million babies born in 2008, 340,000 were to illegal immigrants. The breakdown:
US-born parents: 76%
Legal immigrant parents; 16%
Illegal immigrant parents: 8%
Moreover, that birth rate is in disproportion to illegal immigration in general. Illegal immigrants represent only 4% of the adult population suggesting they have a higher fertility rate or simply a desire to have children here in the US for citizenship purposes.

Our minds have been so warped by liberal thought that permeates our culture, in schools and media outlets, that we believe the most basic functions applied by the state to preserve a nation(control of borders, penalizing illegal immigrants) are seen as racism, bigotry and hate.
bump
It’s not even what it SAYS, let alone what it means. Those words “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” aren’t there just to fill out the paragraph.
I am amazed and disgusted at the venality, duplicity, and outright willful stupidity of those who say that the 14th Amendment confers citizenship on all persons born in the United States. It does no such thing - and the Supreme Court has ever ruled that it does.
ooops! That’s “NEVER”.
“Its not even what it SAYS, let alone what it means. Those words and subject to the jurisdiction thereof arent there just to fill out the paragraph.”
Since when do those who want to “fundamentally change” the U.S. and it’s history give a crap about about what anything actually says and means? To most of these people the Ten Commandments are merely suggested guidelines open to personal interpretation.

Fox News has adopted this mantra...especially the Brett Baier program and their panelists....the pro-Illegal/Anti-American mentality is everywhere.
And I will go postal next time I hear: “comprehensive immigration reform”......all thinking people know that is Illegal Alien Amnesty
This has got to end or we will soon be a thirld world nation.
Yes, you are right. One thing that must end it the strangle hold the mainstream media has on the truth. They are all skilled propagandists at work.
Yeah, for sure. The 14th amendment is being exploited by those seeking a method (anchor babies) of enabling their ability to gain legal residence in the U.S. So, while the original writing of the 14th was good and honorable because it's now being wrongly exploited it has to be rewritten - asap.
I agree. It is misleading to say the 14th amendment says all people born are citizens. They are most certainly not.
I think the current 14th Amendment debate is a RINO scam, currently being fueled by Graham, who isn’t running for office, and played off of by McCain and other half-witted, pro-amnesty losers who think kowtowing to illegals will be the salvation of the Republican Party, all evidence to the contrary. Don’t let these bums confuse the issue, either by suggesting we should change the 14th Amendment, or by saying we shouldn’t change the 14th Amendment. It is all a dodge, an obfuscation of of the issue. I can see these RINO scumbags in a backroom meeting choosing who should suggest changing the 14th Amendment, and who should say we shouldn’t. Meanwhile, liberals are falling out of their chairs with laughter while Republicans fire up another dog and pony show. It’s a win/win for them. Don’t get dragged into the 14th Amendment debate. Keep reminding people that anchor babies are about policy interpretations, not Constitutional law. Don’t let the RINOs slip amnesty in through the back door while misdirecting our attention.
