Why your friends might be packing a concealed gun

Erik Scott rarely left home without a gun tucked in his waistband.

Concerned about his safety while on call at night to service the pacemakers he sold, Scott decided this year to join more than 34,000 Clark County residents who have obtained concealed weapon permits.

“There are a lot of us who are CCW carriers — first and foremost for safety,” Scott’s friend and co-worker Chris Castillo said last week. “He and I used to have long discussions about it. We take calls as pacemaker reps, and we’re out at all times of the night in all areas of Las Vegas.

“During times of recession, you have rising crime in areas you wouldn’t normally find crime.”

Scott was shot to death last month, but not by a criminal intending to harm him. A confrontation with police left him dead at the entrance to a Costco in the west valley. A store employee had spotted Scott’s concealed firearm and reported to police that he was acting err

Oh, no! Your friends might be PACKING!

Dear heaven, I hate that phrase. Only jour-no-lists seem to use it these days.

And yes, Miss Anjeanette, I am in fact "packing." Almost everywhere I go. And if it's not in my pocket or on my ankle, my pistol is never far from me.

I think the people of Las Vegas should be told the name of that employee that caused his murder.

Have seen people driving like true insane people for the last several days.

People in stores are wacky a bit, too.

People are mad, battening down the hatches, and, some, desperate.

Often, people are now going GROCERY shopping in pairs.

Now, what does that say?

I haven’t seen much gray hair out, either..........

Originally I got a CCP because I joined an gun club again and went to gun shows. Next I got too old to run away and to weak to fight. If a situation goes sidways, the only choice I have left is to kill the attacker.

There is almost no moment in time when I am not armed.

If I happen to go to the bank, post office, grocery store, or just hanging around the house or working my farm.

I live in the country, crime is near zero in my area...I stay armed... because I can.

I prefer ‘Strapped’. Yo, that’s the way we roll. :)

“A young thug could overpower you easily.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Probably even a late middle aged thug could do the same. I am very fortunate in that I am a big man and healthy enough to work out regularly in the weight room. I am 66 and I could easily overpower most of the thirty year olds I see in a contest of pure strength, I don’t claim to be fast but I am strong enough to swat most men my age down with one hand, still I don’t want to tackle a 20 year old who is half my size and in shape and knows a few tricks. All mature adults should carry a weapon and know how to use it.

I am 63 and carry most everywhere, why because I too can. No one other than my wife, who also carries knows a thing about it. I too am in excellent shape, someone might try to take it from me but they'd have a battle.

There’s a saying: “Don’t pick a fight with an old man - if he’s too old to fight you, he’ll just kill you.”

Why your friends might be packing a concealed gun

You either have the basic human right of self defense or you don't.

Is this “journalist” questioning that right?

LTC - Class A (ALP) here in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts (Cambridge). ALP means All Lawful Purposes - the best you can get. Most times, IF they even give it to you, it’s restricted to hunting or target. It was a bitch to get the damn thing here (expect to wait 2 or 3 months and have to be “interviewed” by the chief), but I have it and I carry. I figured I had to work that hard to get it — I’ll exercise my 2nd amendment right to the fullest. Plus, I enjoy going to the range,

...The Sun obtained the names of all permit holders in the state’s most populous counties, Clark and Washoe, but elected not to publish the names unless the permit holders agreed to on-the-record interviews..."

Why does this bother me in soooo many ways...

“Don’t pick a fight with an old man.”
When I lived in an urban area, the evening news presented a story about a thug accosting an elderly man. What was so humorous was that the silly thug threatened the older man w/a knife. The intended victim, however, was a former Golden Gloves boxer. He demonstrated how he disarmed and disabled his attacker. Those long years of training served him well; I’ve never seen such fast fists!

Given the demographics of the reporter class, I would be far more concerned to find myself in their crowd than in a crowd of concealed permitees.

A study published in June of 2000, the National Center for Policy Analysis published an article on the experience that the State of Texas had with its permitees. They state:

“In an unpublished report, engineering statistician William Sturdevant found that concealed carry licensees had arrest rates far lower than the general population for every category of crime. For instance:

Licensees were 5.7 times less likely to be arrested for violent offenses than the general public - 127 per 100,000 population versus 730 per 100,000.

Licensees were 14 times less likely to be arrested for nonviolent offenses than the general public - 386 per 100,000 population versus 5,212 per 100,000.

Further, the general public is 1.4 times more likely to be arrested for murder than licensees [ see Figure I ], and no licensee had been arrested for negligent manslaughter.”

(from: http://www.ncpa.org/pub/ba324)

We don’t have any comparable crime statistics about members of the Main Stream Media, but some polls indicate more than 90% of reporters vote Democrat and as a group, their bias against private ownership of firearms is well known.

In the decade my state has had shall-issue concealed carry, I don’t think we have had a single incident of a person being convicted of unlawfully using their firearm.
