New poll: Nevada voters unimpressed by Harry Reid’s clout (U.S. Senate race still a squeaker)

New poll: Nevada voters unimpressed by Harry Reid’s clout
By Holly Bailey
Fri Aug 13, 3:20 pm ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has made his influence in Washington a central argument in his bid for re-election, insisting that "no one can do more" for Nevada than he can. But a new poll finds that most voters in the state don't think his clout is so important that he can't be replaced by someone else.

A new Las Vegas Review-Journal/Mason-Dixon poll finds that 51 percent of Nevada voters believe Reid's clout is "not too valuable to give up," whereas 45 percent said Nevada needs Reid's power in Washington. The numbers are even more dismal for him when you look at self-described independents, who are likely to decide the race. In that voting bloc, 54 percent said Reid's position isn't too valuable to lose, whereas 43 percent disagreed.

That's a blow to Reid's campaign — though not necessarily a surprising development considering the senator's unpopularity in the state. The poll finds Reid leading GOP opponent Sharron Angle by just 2 percentage points, 46 percent to 44 percent. It's a dead-heat race that has tightened in recent weeks in spite of Reid putting millions of dollars into ads attacking Angle, and despite the GOP nominee's own missteps in the race.

One possible saving grace for Reid is that Angle continues to be nearly as unpopular as he is. Fifty-one percent of likely voters have a negative opinion of Reid; 40 percent like him. Angle is viewed negatively by 45 percent and positively by 37 percent.

Nevada’s U.S. Senate race still a squeaker
Last Updated: Friday August 13, 2010 5:01pm PDT

A new poll out today shows no clear leader in the race between Sen. Harry Reid and Republican candidate Sharron Angle.

An opinion poll released Friday Las Vegas Review-Journal and KLAS-TV gives Reid a 46 percent to 44 percent edge over Angle.

The Mason-Dixon telephone survey of 625 voters statewide was conducted Monday through Wednesday of this week.

The new survey finds 5 percent of voters undecided, while 3 percent want neither Reid nor Angle, and 2 percent want someone else.

There won’t be very much clout when the democrats are run out of town by furious voters, and Reid gets ousted as Leader by the minority Senate democrats.

I am sure they will mess with the elections, even if they aren't messing with the polls. Conservatives need to volunteer to be watchers at the polls on Nov 2.

Lol..but there are two meanings to that. I agree Reid should be way behind if that is what you meant. On the other hand, Republicans are almost always behind this far out from an election. Very bad news for Reid its a dead heat.

I’ve debated a few in-law family members. They are written off in my book. They’re hardcore Marxists/Islamofascist sympathizers. They’re on our shun list. It was sad, for awhile, that it has come to this. Now, I’m just angry. Idiots!

I now have two sources that link Harry Reid to pimp Joe Conforte at the Mustang Ranch brothel along with bribe taking. The reason this is so important is that it means the mob new Harry was on the take because I've linked Conforte to Jimmy the Weasel Fratianno. That completely changes a number of Harry's other stories.
I was on the radio with Steve Wark last Monday. More to come Freepers. Click my name to see about the book I've written about Reid.

“This shouldn’t be close.”

If the GOP nominee had been anyone else but Sharron Angle, it wouldn’t be.

Angle may still beat Reid but she definitely wasn’t our strongest candidate. Lowden or Tarkanian would have done better.

The disapproval numbers for Reid tell the real story here. And poll after poll shows he can’t get close to 50% which is often the boiling point for incumbents.

He’s in major trouble here and the only question is if Angle runs a smart campaign from here or gets sidetrack with stuff that isn’t central to the race - which should be all about Reid and his record.

And I agree that Angle should be pressing Reid for an opinion on the Ground Zero mosque. On what issues, exactly, will Reid NOT carry Obama’s water? If he can be apoxied to Obama’s hide, he’ll lose for sure.

So Angle is viewed negatively by 45% which means Democrat’s don’t like her since that is Harry’s peak. Harry’s viewed negatively by 51% which means Republicans and Independents. Same number thinks his Majority Leader status isn’t worth keeping him around.

Seems to me the race is Angle’s to lose. Harry can’t get above 45%. She just needs to make the case to the Independents that she isn’t the extremist liberals in BOTH parties have painted her as. Do that and she can win this race with 50% or better.

[The Nevada Senator in “The Godfather” was inspired by dingy Harry.]

I didn’t know that. Obviously Dicky Smothers in Casino is Harry. From my interviews, it looks like Harry was taking money from Lefty and Joe Agosto. I’ve also onto him partaking of the girls at the Mustang Ranch, which means everyone knew he was on te take.

The tide is turning ever so slowly, I keep getting info. But this isn’t fun writing about this stuff, it’s just one of those things where I could make the last percentage difference to put Angle over the top. Harry is just so evil, I have to do my duty. It sucks big time.

Yeah, you say that and yet they collapsed in the closing weeks up to the primary. If either of them were such great candidates they should have won. Instead they were tanking in polls against Reid before the primary vote and she was the one doing well.

My opinion? People rushed to define her as an extremist the first few weeks including Republicans who either don’t like conservatives or were in love with another challenger and then the Independents bought in. She’s put out some new ads and has recovered to make it competitive again.

I do think she made a mistake. She let her enemies define her when she should have done that first. She now has to climb out of that hole. In her favor is that Harry’s ceiling is 45% so there are many independents out there looking to be persuaded she’s not the kook her enemies claimed.

I hope her TV and Radio Ads from now until election day will change these numbers for the better. Is anyone, other than me, starting to think that Danny Tarkanian would have been a better choice to go up against Reid?

One possible saving grace for Reid is that Angle continues to be nearly as unpopular as he is. Fifty-one percent of likely voters have a negative opinion of Reid; 40 percent like him. Angle is viewed negatively by 45 percent and positively by 37 percent.

She must improve her own positives and keep Reid's negatives up. If the race remains entirely negative from this point onward Reid wins. Angle needs a balance of attacks on Reid and also needs quite a few flowery, light ads portraying her as a caring wife, mother, and grandmother with good home town values...and at the same time, a principled individual who will stand on her convictions to lower the deficits, improve the economy, etc. Otherwise, Reid wins.

It's called a "machine", and Dingy has a very well-oiled political machine with a lot of money to keep it running. It's not going to be easy for Angle to defeat Dingy, but if she does, it will be a great victory for Nevada and a giant victory for America!
