Pelosi pulled strings to let dying Dallas lawyer Baron try experimental cancer drug

WASHINGTON – Dallas' top Democratic donors will cut big checks to share dinner later this month with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Most will be motivated by a desire to protect the party's congressional majority.

Lisa Blue will have an extra reason: to say thanks for Pelosi's efforts when her husband, Fred Baron, was dying of bone marrow cancer. His only option was an experimental drug whose manufacturer refused to give permission to use it for Baron's condition.

"He was a big fan of hers, and now I am as well," Blue said.

Baron, the "King of Toxic Torts," built a fortune suing on behalf of asbestos victims. He died the week before Election Day 2008 at age 61.

A prolific Democratic fundraiser, he served as finance chief that year for his friend John Edwards, who also made his fortune in court. Baron later acknowledged funneling large sums to Edwards' mistress – a scandal that gave ammunition to those who already despised trial lawyers.

That’s one of the absolute worst things about socialized health care that’s being forced on us the people who will be put in charge deciding who gets what based on who knows what (meaning friends, money, etc)

Gee, a drug company who didn’t want to get sued by the biggest trial lawyer in Texas!

Who woulda thunk it. Of course, the trial lawyers will spin this as if the drug company was at fault, but the truth is that the trial lawyers would gleefully sue the drug company out of existence for providing the drug if it had killed the guy.

Actually this proves that socialized medicine will really only be for the masses. The Progressive aristocracy will still be able to pull strings to see doctors on demand and get their friends preferential treatment while the rest of us wither on the vine.

Absolutely right it is one of the absolute worst things: a crony government running our entire society...including our health care. Your level of care will depend upon how much money you give to our government rulers. We’ve destroyed our republic...and to say that America is the land of the free is ludicrous.

So she values this life but could give a rat’s ass about the 54 million babies that have been aborted in the US?

Anybody who has lived in a socialized medical system knows that life and death is determined by who has money and clout. If you want your loved one to survive, you have to bribe the politician and then the doctor.

In Russia, the doctors get 'gifts' before surgeries from family members to help ensure a good outcome. In Israel, under the table bribes go on all the time.

At least there's a happy ending.

Or should I say "a good start"?

54 million babies

I tend to think of them as 54 million tax payers,
bet Nanzi never thought of that.

I didn’t think I could despise Pelosi any further. I was wrong. Isn’t this something like the parasite circle of life?

I can’t help but feel that there are cures for cancer, but the American Cancer Society, and big pharma are too big and making too much money to release cures and just “Quit”.

Yes, that’s exactly right, but not many people notice it or mention it.

They also don’t seem to notice that the government wants to charge you as a single worker, $800 a month, or $10,000 a year, or $120,000 in 10 years.

Over a 40 year period for the normal working career, you would’ve banked a half-million dollars and if you got any kind of interest all you would have over $1 million dollars. in the bank. For you to use. Any way you wish. Or better yet you can leave it to your children and your grandchildren. But this is not the system that we have.

Is it okay to give up all of the above so that you can visit the doctor for free and get the usual 90 second examination? True value, not the $60 cash that you had to pay, but the seven dollars that the government pays the doctor. Undoing this kind of inequality would have a much bigger effect than all of the Obama care crap — which is not about health care at all but is all about the redistribution of wealth in America.
