Dear Republican Party:
Your moment is now.
This weekend, President Obama defended the right of Muslims to build a community center and mosque two short blocks from Ground Zero, despite cries of insensitivity from some New Yorkers and accusations of mischief from some pundits. This finally gives you an opportunity to add a powerful national-security cudgel to the message of economic woe you have been pushing as the midterm election approaches.
The political potency of the issue is obvious. Polls overwhelmingly show the President has put himself on the wrong side of public opinion. Opposition to the new facility arouses acute emotion and creates near total unity among relatives of 9/11 victims, first responders, Republican officeholders, potential 2012 presidential candidates, Tea Party members, the Fox Newstalk radioDrudge Report echo machine and many of the highly coveted swing and occasional voters whom you will need at the polls to win in November.

Question:
What was the exact date when the Cordoba cartel bought the building? Before Obama entered the DEM primaries or after he won the election????
Just like I'm sure you believed the Democrats shouldn't have called Bush a warmonger, or called those who are against abortion "anti-woman", or denounced those who are against gay marriage as the equivalent of racists, or called those supporting our illegal immigration policies as "bigots"--because those positions were "divisive".
Your fake cries against "divisive" rhetoric are a joke.
Best suggestion I’ve read so far was from a poster on another blog. He/she said that Congress (this or the next, I suppose) should just declare it a National Historic Battlefield, just as they’ve done for other pieces of real estate.
If this fool were a lawyer, he wouldn’t win too many cases with arguments like this. Plus, he’s boring too.
Does anyone know why the Twin Towers have not yet been rebuilt?
If the GOP attacks BO’s brazen support of our enemies, they may close all the Christian churches in Saudi Arabia. Oh...nevermind....
What are the rules and restrictions of National Historic Battlefields? How do these rules extend to the area beyond the battlefield boundaries?
I would think that the overwhelming majority of people outside of New York care more about the economy, unemployment, the wars, and the deficit than about a mosque. If the GOP makes this the core part of their campaign, when virtually all their opponents will be able to give a better answer than Obama did, then they’re making a mistake.
No mercy, lock them all up for treason.
I don’t know. The main problem I foresee is that it might ensnare other businesses already on site that are not trying to stir up the pot!
I’d hate to run afoul of someone’s legitimate private property rights just to prevent this mosque from being built.
It shouldn’t be the core part of the platform but it should be a big step.
Why?
Dear GOP,
Our weaknesses are evident for all to see.
Please don’t exploit them just to win votes.
Thank you very much you racists.
Sincerely,
Democrats.
LOL @ Halperin whining for the GOP not to beat up his beloved ‘Rats for another of their unpopular positions. Go play in the road, Marky.
A smart American realizes their is a difference between a religion and a theocracy. They realize that the very teachings of Islam are that it is a theocracy.
Theocracy absolutely is NOT protected by the US Constitution since its purpose is to overthrow the constitution.
“...virtually all their opponents will be able to give a better answer than Obama did ...”
What would that answer be?
Because one widdle writer for Time will pout if they do, is the real answer, but to save you the trouble, the actual answer he gives is...I'm not making this up...because if they do, the terrorists win.
Time Magazine. The only place you see it anymore is at the Dentist office.
1000% CORRECT
One doesn't have to be against, say, gun rights to believe that not everyone should be able to carry a gun--convicted terrorists, for example. Similarly, it doesn't make one against property rights to say that in this one case, maybe one or two property owners' rights are less important than allowing an existential threat to build a victory mosque on the sight where 3000 Americans were slaughtered. That's a LITTLE more important than building a Burger King or something.
No Mas!
It shouldn't be against the Freedom of Worship and it shouldn't whine about 'senstivity'...it should IMO come out loud and clear against that aspect of the mosque that represents a monument to and commemoration of the successful Islamic attack on NYC and America.
Wishful thinking. Does anyone outside of the elite enclaves take Mark Halperin seriously anymore? He is just another ruling class parrot.
Something along the lines of what New York does within its borders is New York's business. Add a couple of platitudes about how they understand how people can be upset about the current mosque plans and a few comments about how important 1st Amendment rights are for everyone and they're home free.
One question. is Mark Halperin on the Journ-O-list list?
I am with you.
But I’m not a lawyer, and I worry if it would require a certain amount of area to be declared under such a scenario, disenfranchising current property owners who just happen to be operating nearby.
Maybe in New York and immediately surrounding it. But for the majority of the country any time spent on the mosque is time not spent hammering Obama on topics they really care about.
“Cordova is a city in south Spain. Muslims armies invaded Spain in 711, massacring countless people. Then they converted the biggest church in Cordova into a mosque.
“Building mosques over churches, synagogues and temples of the conquered people began during the life of Muhammad who converted the temple of the Arabs in Mecca into an Islamic mosque.
“Muslims have been doing the same ever since. Numerous Hindu temples, churches, synagogues and Zoroastrian temples were converted into mosques. The objective is twofold To humiliate the defeated people and to establish the supremacy of Islam.
“The mosque over the temple of Solomon in Jerusalem is one example. When Muslims conquered the Byzantine Empire they converted the biggest church in the Christian empire into a mosque. In India over 2000 mosques are built on Hindu temples.”

Why take advice from a liberal/socialist medidiot?
Again, I simply think disenfranchising a few property owners isn’t a sin worse than the building of this thing. Yeah, I don’t feel good about it, but come on, we’re talking much bigger stakes.
That we are quibbling over these important but ultimately minor points while dealing with an existential threat to this nation is alarming to me. This is a textbook case of the frog in the water not noticing while the heat is being turned up.
I wouldn’t take advice from Mark Halperin on how to wipe my butt.
Yes, we must seek to deploy strategies devised for us by or mortal enemies ... like Time Ragazine.
What BOZOs.
LLS
Would the US have allowed property rights in 1947 for Toyota to build an auto plant at Pearl Harbor?
I agree with you on most of this.
Maybe we ought to let them (try to) build it, then have a more conservative administration exercise eminent domain and force them off it and tear it down again.
I prefer this plan. Riskier but somehow more satisfying.
Are the libs coordinating?

Mark Halperin....consider the source.
It’s time for the GOP to inform the public that
Islam in the US is seditious and to teach the reasons why.
Sure they are. They always do. They always have (I can attest personally.) That's why the media outlets always uses the same words as each other.
Remember that they believe that "if you own the language you own the people."
This latest talking point must be "no matter what our weakness is, tell the GOP they'd be stupid to exploit it."
Thank goodness they are so transparently obvious. We just ignore them and attack as effectively as we can.
Halperin’s a loser and will always be a loser.
We can be sure the necessary local permits would not be forthcoming, but are the applicable national laws preventing it.
Dear GOP,
Never take advice from Time magazine.
Obama supports
The Muslim Touchdown Dance Mosque.
What else do you need?
The fiction is that Islam is a religion, and as such it is entitled to protection under the Establishment Clause of the US Constitution. If you accept this fiction, then President Obama’s position makes perfect sense. It is better to tolerate Muslim mischief than to trash the Constitution.
But the fact is that Islam is not entitled to Constitutional protection, because it is a political system, not a religion. Islam does not call for the individual to submit himself to God, but rather to a temporal legal system defined by Islam. One can submit to this system as a believer, a dhimmi or as a slave. The important thing is that one submits. The fact that Islam does not particularly care how one submits is the dead give-away that it is not a religion at all.
This political system is incompatible with pluralistic Western democracy. Sharia Law and the Constitution cannot coexist, therefore it is ridiculous to assert that the Constitution protects Sharia Law.
To put it another way, the Christian Identity idiots running around in Idaho are trying to impose their political and racial philosophies on the United States. Even though their perverted ideology is based on a religious argument, they are not afforded any protections under the First Amendment. The government opposes them and arrests them, as well it should. They are not a religion, no matter how much they claim to be. They are a radical subversive political movement bent on the destruction of this country. It is the same with Islam.
We'll see. I doubt it.
Krauthammer beats Halperin like a drum.
