Posted on 08/16/2010 6:12:48 AM PDT by macquire
The Justice Department has informed former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) that the government has ended a six-year investigation of his ties to the disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to DeLay's lead counsel in the matter, Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods.
The investigation lasted through two presidents and four attorneys general. Its demise provides a stark footnote to the lobbying scandals that helped Democrats regain the House majority they held for 40 years and lost in the Republican revolution of 1994, which eventually made the pugnacious DeLay one of Washingtons top power brokers.

He doesn’t. This is 6 years to late. He needed to fight them hard.. he didn’t.
of course he was aquitted
now.....when will charges be pressed against the DA and all those that trumped up these charges for polical reasons....let see the Republican Governor of Texas have the scumbag arrested.
I am waiting for this story to appear on the front page of the Washington Post and the New York Times. Hah.
I will remember him for doing nothing to limit growth in spending at the Federal Govt. level.....
I know Delay. He did fight them hard. He's off clean. What would you have suggested?
Republicans will never learn. They let the rats walk all over them for fear of the media.... and they win every time.
Agreed. I believe it was he DeLay who stated that there was "nothing" in the federal budget that could be cut.
Lead story on tonight’s Nightly News with Brian Whatsizname.
well now we know why he turned into such a deomocrat
oops wrong dude..just woke up
Sons of mongrel female dogs. All of them.
dancing with the stars?
republicans never do. there should be an investigation of
why fbi went after curt weldon two weeks before
election allowing sestak to win. weldon was way ahead until
fbi announced investigation. soros/clinton had it in
for weldon and then this happened. after election, all news
and investigation was dropped. same thing with cia going
after scooter libby.
The DA in question (Ronnie Earle) is a POS RAT operative that is quite safe in his office. The county seat is Austin with is the Texas version of Berkeley.
A state case continues in Texas, with a hearing scheduled for Aug. 24. A trial is expected next spring, and could last several weeks.
Democrats... masters of the obvious.
In political writing, I thought the word “pugnacious” was held in reserve for use only in descriptions of Pat Buchanan...
He's not finished.
I think you have the wrong Tom DeLay.
You need to pay attention to facts. Delay was speaking of Hurricane Katrina and of course the media made it out to be something it wasn’t:
Mr. DeLay was defending Republicans’ choice to borrow money and add to this year’s expected $331 billion deficit to pay for Hurricane Katrina relief. Some Republicans have said Congress should make cuts in other areas, but Mr. DeLay said that doesn’t seem possible.
Gee.... They move so fast, I can’t wait to see how fast they move on my x-rays... ( Sarc / off ).....
And where do we go to get our country back!!!!!?
Delay was an effective leader who trumped the dims at their own game...
I will remember him for redistricting Texas and taking me out of Ron Paul’s district (which I could live with) and putting me in Lloyd Dogshitts district.
Take the Democrats to court!
Politico uses two lists of suggested terms.
One list for Republicans and one list for Democrats.
If this story had been about a Democrat the list would have suggested using the words aggresive or determined.
I love Tom Delay. He was a great leader. I just think he was railroaded on trumped up charges. The same with Lott. The rats smear them and somehow always manage to make it stick. I don’t think it was Delay so much as I blame Republicans for not sticking together and standing by their own.
Ronnie Earle, the RAT DA, is running for Lt. Gov. Another sick Austin lib is Rep. Lloyd Doggett.
Let’s be honest about this, shall we?
I do not see a RAT that is worth spitting on.
As far as I am concerned the entire party should be eliminated.
Tom DeLay fought long and hard. He was a good Congressman and a true Conservative. He stood for what he believed in and in the end it cost him. He is a good man and I will always respect and admired him.
ronnie earle retired in 2008 or 2009. His understudy - who is just as liberal - took the DA office now.
Okay, I missed that. The last time that I heard he was as safely embedded as a tick.
Earle is running for Lt. Gov.
Yes, where does he go to get his reputation back?
The story neglected to list those members of Congress who objected to cooperate with the Department of Justice. Those slime-maggots should be outted in every story related to Abramoff.
Let us pray that he gets creamed in a major way.
He’s off clean? Does that mean he gets his seat back? or his leadership position?
The fight should have started before he gave up his leadership position.
He had one of the safest (d) offices in Texas. He and lord dog nuts had / have the Austin liberals as their voting base.
Earle got defeated in the Dem primary so he out of it unless he's running as a 3rd party which I'm not aware of.
Linda Chavez-Thompson DEM 314,972 53.13% Ronnie Earle DEM 205,516 34.67% Marc Katz DEM 72,235 12.18%
The DA in Austin, Ronnie Earle, was the biggest liar.
Maybe, maybe not.
I don't know how much more a man with a limited budget can do when the budget of the Federal Gov't and the MSM are arrayed against him.
Knowing this, the national rats got a TX prosecutor to indict DeLay. No trial ever, just indictment.
Rats don't oppose, they destroy. We should do the same.
When do the dhiminicrats prosecute Foley?
