CNN Poll is First To Show Majority Support for Gay Marriage
FiveThirtyEight ^ | 8/11/10 | Nate Silver

Posted on 08/16/2010 10:13:59 AM PDT by detritus

A landmark of sorts was achieved today as CNN just came out with a poll showing a 52 percent majority of Americans agreed with the statement that "gays and lesbians should have a constitutional right to get married and have their marriage recognized by law as valid." Some 46 percent of respondents disagreed with the statement...

CNN also asked the question in a slightly different way to half its respondents, omitting the term "should" from the question above, i.e. "Do you think gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to get married and have their marriage recognized by law as valid?". Using that phrasing, 49 percent said yes and 51 percent said no.

Combining the two subsamples has 50.5 percent of Americans in support of gay marriage and 47.5 percent opposed: just about the barest possible majority. But a majority nevertheless, something that no previous poll had shown. An ABC/Washington Post poll from April 2009 had come the closest, showing a 49/46 plurality in support of gay marriage rights; a few other polls had also shown gay marriage to the plurality position when respondents were given a three-way choice of marriage, civil unions, and no legal recognition. But no national poll, save for one debatable case with highly unorthodox phrasing, had shown it to the the majority position....

Fine, then let the people in every state vote on it and not be overturned by a judge.

Then the Democrats should run on this issue in the fall.

How’s CNN doing in ratings, overall? I’m assuming that their ratings for everything keep going down, down, down.

But the rulings never mention ‘Gay’. Only same sex. There is not a Gay requirement.

You can bet they oversampled Democrats. They always do to get the results they want and when they get the results they want it becomes a headline because CNN is about changing public opinion and public perception rather than just report the news.

“gays and lesbians should have a constitutional right to get married and have their marriage recognized by law as valid.”

I agree with that statement. And they have that right in every state as long as it meets the following criteria:
1. The person they marry is of the opposite sex.
2. The person they marry is of age.
3. the person they marry is not a direct relative.
4. The person they marry is not currently married.
5. The person they marry consents.
6. They are of age or have the permission of their parent or guardian.

It’s all about how you ask the question. I would be part of the 52%, but that assumes the rules above.

Funny. When they put it to the ballot thought (even n liberal states) it goes down in flamers (no pun intended).

A CONSTITUTIONAL right?

Really?

Either the majority doesn’t get The Consitution or didn’t pay attention to that portion of the question

Or both.

I don’t believe it.

Further, those that DO believe it don’t seem to realize the camel’s nose under the tent - if non-tradional marriages are o.k., so is polygamy - which translates into an Islamic demographic bomb in the U.S.

A push poll from a so called news agency with an agenda.

Can't we report them to somebody? Maybe there should be a learned panel of experts that would censures organizations masquerading as news media.

Oh yeah, we already have one, it's called capitalism.

Please do you believe a CNN POLL ???

The CNN polling firm is owned and operated by a HUGE Democrat fundraiser and hits all the DNC events .

CNN canned the GALLUP pollster because it was not getting the right results ( an actual quote ).

We know CNN did something to make this happen.

What I find interesting they are doing polls on this rather than O. Anything but O.

This has to be public schools, MTV culture, massive immigration and the MSM celebration of homosexuality. How the hell can people think same sex marriage is in the US constitution?

How about a fing poll that asks ? :Where do constitutional rights come from ?
A) The US constitution derived from the framers and amendments,
B) judges.
C) Obama,
D) A wise latino.
E) Judge Matthias (the Jesse Jackson judge)

It is partially brain-washing and partial-fraud.

After 20 years of preparing people (since Clinton put Gays in Military and paid for it), Bank Owned media has normalized homosexuality to the point where most people are not shocked by it.

They always show slight change in polls and some of it is real for sure, but some of it fabricated, and now they are ready to make their move - the Gay Judge in CA, and the new polls are all leading to Electronic Machine Fraud.

The experts would then come on and explain how the opinions are changing and some are, but it is every easy for EVMs to commit fraud and they obviously feel the time is right.

Goal remains to break every man and woman from their family, from their enthnic loyalties, from their National Pride, from their neighbors. People hate bankers, but trust them more than they trust their neighbors.

Better yet, some Republicans should run on this issue -
